My venue was sold!

Allison Nicole, on January 26, 2018 at 11:49 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16
My venue for the ceremony and reception just got bought by another company and the deal is closing in March, one month before my wedding date! No word on whether or not they will uphold my contract, so I guess I'll be calling the venue coordinator today to try to figure it out. All the catering is done by them too so if they cancel on me, guess it's s sign to just elope in the woods somewhere lol!

Glad I bought that cancellation insurance a month ago despite thinking it was a waste of money. Hopefully the new company will still uphold my contract!

Does your contract contain a clause regarding change in management and/or ownership?

We booked our venue, and were never informed about remodeling of the venue. I’m really disappointed and embarrassed if our guest have to see all the dirt and trucks near the hall area.... now we’re about 2 weeks away getting married. Good luck

Do you have a back up venue or plan B? That sounds scary

Might I add this is what happens when you book a venue on Friday the 13th 🙃

Wow that is so frustrating, sorry to hear, OP. Definitely dig into your contracts. So good that you have insurance. If they won't uphold it, at least you are covered. Good Luck!

I said that as an obvious joke. I'm trying to see a bit of humor in my situation verses getting caught up in how upsetting it is. No need for shade. I have had a lot of friends and family ask if I'm worried about something bad happening since my wedding is on Friday the 13. I just laugh everyone off, so there is a bit of irony in my situation that I find funny.

I had my overwhelmed breakout a month ago and at this point have just given it up to God haha. My dad is our officiant and has offered to pay for the wedding and he told me worst case we just get married I the backyard with immediate family and he looses some money in deposits. At the end of the day, my future husband and I will be married and off to a great honeymoon in the UK. We are more excited about that anyway.

This sucks, but it's just one day that may not go quite as planned. I'm hoping for the best though and going over contracts now.

Ughh that sucks. That's great that you bought the insurance though. Definitely start looking for a backup, review your contract to see if this type of situation is addressed, and then speak to the venue. I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but if they won't honor your contract, then the whole thing should become null and void, ideally allowing you to get your deposit back. Good luck!
