My ring broke and i need to vent!!

Kawanda, on January 23, 2020 at 12:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15
Hi Everyone,

Since getting engaged on New Years Eve, I have tried to be as super cautious with my ring. From making sure I don't take my ring off when washing my hands to making sure it doesn't hit anything, I thought I was as careful as possible. Last night, the worst happened!! While in the bathroom after I washed my hands, I moved my ring to another finger so I can dry them and my ring fell to the floor!!😥 The diamond (which was still attached to the setting) went one way and the band went another. After saying "WTF" really loud, I picked up them up, left the bathroom and immediately called my FH from the lobby. He calmed me down(why are they so calm!!🤔), asked that I send him the picture which he sent to the jeweler and said "babe, it's fine!" He was upset that it broke after 3 weeks! The band is rose gold and wood so we believe that might be it as the jeweler was having issues adding diamond to the band because of the wood but maaaan!!! I couldn't get the image out of my mind!!! I'm trying not to stalk my FH to see if he can get the jeweler to take it today instead of tomorrow. I'm sitting here feeling naked without it!! Interestingly enough, the FH found it amusing because when he proposed, I was so excited, I put the ring on my own finger. He says now once it's fixed, he has to put it on so it doesn't break again.

Just had to get that aaaaaaall out!!! Thx for listening and so happy for you all. This really is an exciting time!!!

Oh my gosh, thankfully it's able to be fixed! I remember when I took my ring to get resized after the proposal and even though I had only been wearing it for about a week, my hand felt so naked without it Smiley xd

I'm so sorry this has happened. Could it be that the wood isn't strong enough material? You might need a ring able of stronger lasting material since you will be wearing it every day. I was the same way about being so excited when we got engaged that I stole the box from the ring before my husband could even really ask me and put it on my finger.

That's what we were thinking. He is allergic to metal so when we were looking at rings we saw the wood and rose gold combo and loved it. We shall see when I go with him tomorrow.

My dad is allergic to metal as well so it took him awhile to find a ring he could wear so I understand.

Regarding allergies: You might want to look into some of the newer, "alternative metals." It's possible to have rings made of surgical grade stainless steel or titanium that are supposed to be hypoallergenic.

Omg. It sounds like the jeweler did not do a good job of making the ring, because this should NOT happen. Do you have it insured? If not you should make sure to insure it in case it happens again and you can't find the diamond.

Mine broke 3 days after I got it!! We were in the midst of home renovations and I banged the corner of my ring and a stone fell out. Never did find it. We brought it back to the jeweler and he replaced the stone and fixed it for free.

I lost one of my sapphires after only having my ring for 3weeks, I hit it against my shower door. I was on the phone with my fiance in tears and he calmed me down saying we have a warranty and it would be fine. He was able to take it back to the jewelry store and have them replace the sapphire and tighten all the brackets. I was trying to be extra careful as well. I still take it off as soon as I get home and place it in the box for safe keeping. So, I know how scary and exasperating that experience is.

Ughhh! Very and it looks like we have to wait until tomorrow to take it to the jeweler due to an emergency on his side. Who knows how long it will take especially if we change the band. I just want my ring!!

Yall are making me very nervous hahaha. I wore a "promise ring" for 8 years that was essentially an engagement ring and I banged that thing on every wall from here to China. No diamond ever fell out.

I work at a welding shop and have hit my current engagement ring on metal doors, walls, desk, etc and nothing has ever happened. *KNOCKS ON WOOD 100X* hahaha.
