My photographer lost my pictures...Advice PLEASE!

YSMartz_13, on August 22, 2013 at 12:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 68

My "professional photographer" lost my pictures! He took about 85% of the main photos on one camera which we now find had a damaged memory card, a camera with a wide angel lens on another camera (which I thought was just overkill) and his assistant took "side shots". He told me he ONLY lost the photos from my church ceremony. When I went to check out the pictures in person with my husband he actually lost EVERY traditional shot and anything and everything of us looking directly at the camera. He LIED TO ME! There's not one photo that I loved of my husband and myself that I could use as a portrait or on my thank you cards. I'm so devastated that this happened to me. What do I do? Should I retake some pics ??? Of course, with someone else!

This is a once in a lifetime thing for me. I would like some nice professional pictures of us for memories.

I'll be getting to the bottom of this by the end of the week. HOPEFULLY!

Awww man. That sucks big time. I wouldn't let it go or retake them. Certain shots you just can't get back or recreate. I would demand a refund. See what pictures guests have that you can use to create a nice album and portrait. You'd be surprised some guest pictures look like pro pics.

For instance, hubby and I went to his best friend's wedding in Dallas a couple of years ago and he was best man. They only had one photographer who was with the bride the entire day and I went to the groom's house with hubby for the guys to get ready. Good thing I did because I got lots of pics of them hanging out, hubby fixing the groom's tie, a group pic, etc. that came out nice and they incorporated those pictures into their wedding pics.

How professional was this photographer to not have backed up any of his work? That's photography101. Maybe they're saved somewhere on his computer and he just can't find them. One way or another, he owes you. If I were in your situation, I would retake them.

That's terrible. I agree with Amy. He should have had back-ups of everything!

I'm sorry that has happened to you. Check with your guests to see what photo's they have. We had a drop box account that our guests uploaded their photo's too, and we found that some of the photo's were amazing. They looked just as nice as the professional ones, and they got a lot of photo's from a different perspective.

Feigning that, you could always do a photo shoot with a photographer at a location that can be used for your thank you cards/memory books?

That's horrible. I know my photographer backs the photos up on 2 separate external hard drives.

You could re-take some of them. Get all dressed up and go to a park!

To all future brides please download the wedpics app. If it wasn't for this app and my tons of family and guest contributing to this I would have NOTHING! I am at a loss for words. I was told that "unfortunately things happen" and we will make the best of the situation which we are still in the process of figuring out with them BUT they so causally tried to mention as stated in the contract about "Acts of god" and yadda yadda .. sorry buddy but this was an act of NEGLIGENCE. He had an assistant with him what was she doing? It took an hour to drive to the park! I believe he should have had her backing up his work from the church. THEN he would have noticed ...excuse my mouth but "Oh shit I lost some pics" and okay I can ask family to make up these pictures I don't need that many for an album... BUT MY ENTIRE WEDDING! Ugh I didn't pay for so many wide angel shots of nothing and side views. Everything with my dad gone .. my mom dressing me up ... =( IT SUCKS!

I accidentally formatted a memory card once and lost all the pictures on it...but then downloaded a free program on my laptop that restored it all on the memory card. There are ways to fix these things. If I as a random amateur with a digital camera can figure it out, how can a professional photographer not do it?

And unless a lightning bolt came down from heaven with a booming voice, God didn't destroy the memory card. Even airlines will tell you mechanical failure can't be termed an "act of God" in terms of contracted service. If he doesn't refund EVERYTHING I would be dragging his sorry ass to court, and taking photos along the way.

He was outsourced from a wedding plaza kind of place. He's willing to edit pictures as I collect them from family but this isn't my job to fill in his blanks. Now I need the wedding plaza to see what the photographer will give them and depending on that they will help "build" something. They haven't spoken about giving me a refund yet bc he will receive the photographers work this weekend and be the judge. The photographer is going to use half the pics that I gave him to look like he did his job but I'll be there to point out every single picture that was MY COPY.

Honestly, I just want whatever he took on a cd and my money. Id go pay a "professional" to do my album and take some more pics. I didn't even like what he had is that worst part.

What does your contract say about lost or undeliverable photos?

I agree at minimum you should get your money back and I would schedule a day after shoot with a different photographer. I actually know another couple that this happened to and there really isn't anything you can do other than retake the photos and try and get your money back. Also, make sure to review your experience with this photographer anywhere you can so that this doesn't happen to another bride.

Reason #**** to hire a truly professional photographer.

As a vendor and a recent bride I can tell you that I would be livid if your situation happened to me. His neglegence is in NO WAY an act of god and don't let him tell you otherwise. I would very clearly let him know that if he chooses to not refund you the entire cost you will review him anywhere and everywhere you can online and take him to court.

Yes. I have a case but I'm waiting on the photographer to give his work to the plaza this weekend. (where he was outsourced from) After they view the photos they will be able to "work with me".. They still haven't seen anything. They hate giving refunds so I know this wont be an easy thing =(

I think i would be seeing him in court.. that's just crazy .. any professional would have back up.. sounds like he was very careless.. i would demand a refund and if not then i would let him know that i would see him in court.. that's just not something that you can recreate.. you can try but it just wouldn't be the same.. so so so so sorry you are having to deal with this.. makes me want to cry for the loss of your memories... ughh
