My Friend got Engaged and I want to buy her something...Update on page 2

bina1015, on June 29, 2015 at 12:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

I don't how what. I was thinking for a ring plate from bb&y? She asked a few of us to go to dinner this thursday and I believe it's going to be to ask us to be bridesmaids. Also, do you think it's rude to give her a gift in front of the other girls if they didn't get her anything?

Any suggestions?

I got this book when I got engaged and it's basically like a scrapbook for the whole engagement! It's really cute and sweet.

Are you close with the other girls? Maybe put together a little basket for her and ask if the other girls want to add anything? Like Wedding magazines, a bottle of champagne, stuff like that.

Friends got me bridal magazines and wine when I got engaged, and I loved it! I do think a ring plate would be cute too. I know that in my circle, no one would be offended if someone got her a gift, but you know your friends! I don't see any reason that it would be rude to give her a gift in front of others.

I love my ring plate. I never sleep with my ring on it would orget where I put it at night. Now I don't have to worry. I know she doesn't sleep with it on either.

I love that! My BM got me a gift certificate to Etsy to get a wedding planner. I carry it in my purse with me everywhere! I plan on handing it over to my DOC on the day off too. I really like the ring holder as well!

I love the magazine idea! I've purchased bridal subscriptions as engagement gifts before and it always went over well. The ring holder/plate is a great idea too...I've been engaged since December and I keep meaning to buy myself one!

One of my girlfriends got me a bridal magazine and some flowers when I got engaged. She just happened to be in my town and swung by. It was really sweet and totally unexpected.

If it were me, I would feel a little awkward if someone else have a gift to the bride and I didn't. That's just me though, I would rather that be a more personal thing. Maybe meet up with her before or after?

ETA: I also love the ring plate idea. I keep my ring box on my nightstand and I always put it back in there when I take it off so that I always know where to find it!

That's so sweet of you! Maybe give her the gift before or discreetly if you're concerned about the others there.

I might just ship it to her. One of my friends also agreed it might be awkward and I don't know the next time I will see her solo.

One of my BM's that was with me the night I met FH got me a picture from Etsy that says "It all started with a shot of tequila at..." Then has the place we met, the day we met, the day we got engaged and our wedding date. I seriously cried a little because it was meaningful (it really did start with a shot of tequila) and personal because she was there.

I would personally give it to her when there was no one else around. I get so uncomfortable giving gifts when other people brought nothing. FH was the BM in our BM's wedding a few months ago and we got them a very nice gift. FH wanted to give it to them personally and not leave it on the gift table. We didn't know other people would be at their house that night so when they opened it in front of everyone it made everyone super, super awakward.

Toasting glasses or wedding countdown sign are other options. If its a small gift I would say you're fine to bring it to dinner I would just give it to her before or after sitting down to dinner. If it's a large gift ask her if you can pick her up for the dinner and give it to her in the car

When we got engaged I received champagne flutes from one friend, and another gave us a wedding magazine with some chocolates and flowers. Both were so thoughtful and I loved them. Another idea is a wedding planning binder - I plan to get those for my sisters when they get engaged. I think the ring dish is a great idea!

If you're worried about giving a gift in front of the other girls, maybe let them know you plan to get them something and see if they want to go in on it. Maybe a gift card to Etsy or something along with a physical gift.

Why don't you think about the type of person your friend is and give her a gift based on her unique likes and dislikes that hopefully you know, being that you're close with her?

Seriously, if someone gave me a wedding binder I'd say thank you and throw it out.

Does she celebrate Christmas? You could get her a personalized ornament from Etsy with a ring that has their names and the date of their engagement. I got one for myself, and I love it!

My good friend sent me a whole gift box when I got engaged, with a ring plate, a mini "bridal" nail polish set from Essie and a bottle of Connoisseurs cleaner. She included a really sweet note in a card that said to "Rock That Rock!" -- it was completely unexpected, and such a nice gesture! I always felt bad making a fuss about the engagement, and it was sweet of her to kind of do it for me.

Bottle of champagne and a wedding magazine. I also like the basket idea (put like jewelry cleaner, champagne or wine, magazines, may be gift certificated for a manicure)

I'm with m on the wedding binder. How someone will want to organize their wedding planning is really personal, and I've never found a single "ready made" binder that's exactly what I want. Plus, it's like highlighting the work ahead rather than celebrating the exciting news, you know? lol
