My father in Dress Blues

Krista, on February 6, 2012 at 9:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

So my mother just told me that my dad has lost 20 lbs in just over 2 weeks. If he reaches his goal weight and can fit into his dress blues from his days in the army he would love to wear them again. He would however be the only person in the wedding wearing a uniform since he is the only on that is or actually was in the military. I think my dad would look very sharp in his uniform. Do you all think it would look odd, though, being the only one in unifrom at the wedding?

Uniforms match everything. I may be biased, but it's true. The meaning and honor built into the uniform is the equivalent of fashion teflon. It's not a suit, that has no meaning so can be switched out just for esthetic reasons. Yes, he will stand out, but that is not a bad thing. The pride, honor, and duty he learned in the service is reflected in his uniform, and those are the things that will be noticed. Not whether or not he matches the rest of the room. The 20 lbs in 2 weeks sounds a little extreme though. Tell him to do it in a healthy way, and don't push himself too hard.

My dad wore his Bravos for my wedding, and he looked spectacular, and I was so proud to show him off. As the rest have said, uniforms match everything and are never out of place.

I think it would be awesome. I'm sure it would make both him and your mom feel great for him to wear them. Next to your new hubby, he'll be the best dressed man there. (of course, I'm biased, my hubby's military, and I swoon whenever he puts on his Mess Dress).

You mean his dress greens? I'd let him wear them. If he doesn't lose the weight, he can order a new set and transfer his ribbons and medals over. Just make sure he consults Army regs before he wears it. AR 670 was updated in 2005 and makes changes to the rules of veterans wearing their uniform. He needs to make sure he'll still be in compliance.

Thanks ladies. My mom said my dad would very honored to wear his uniform again. It will be nice to have him all decked out walking me down the aisle. @Pan X i think it has actually been a little more than 2 weeks. I think he just rounded up. LOL @ Meghan...i will have him check on the new regulations.

I am a wedding planner living in a community with many retired and active duty military members, we frequently do weddings where all the men do not wear tuxes. Support your father's wishes to wear the uniform. What an honor to have served his country and to have raised a great daughter. My client for this weekend's wedding has five groomsmen in the wedding party. Four will weat tuxes and one will be in uniform.

I think it will look great! My dad is in the army national guard, and it was a must that he wears his uniform to walk me down the aisle. He will be the only one in uniform too. I am so proud of his service to our country and I wouldn't want it any other way!

I'm asking myself the same question now of my very recently retired Navy dad! I definitely want him to wear it during the ceremony, but would it be weird for him to change for the reception? I think he will feel out of place since he's pretty much the only service member or vet in the whole group.
