My dress doesn't fit!

Olivia, on September 22, 2015 at 10:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I bought my dress from Davids Bridal in November of 2014. My wedding is November 7th 2015. I brought it home and have had it stored away until a month ago. It was sort of hard to zip, but I fit just fine. I then had the sleeves altered and had it hemmed. I just went to my dress fitting a few days ago to make sure the sleeves were right, and my alteration lady couldn't hardly zip me up!! If I bend over, I'm going to bust out of this thing! What the heck has happened?! My weight is literally the exact same! I brought it home anyways, hoping I can lose a few pounds and it will be fine but I am SO overwhelmed. This makes me not even like my dress, that I was so in love with a year ago. What do I do? Have it let out, or try to lose a few pounds and risk it?! Any advise at all would be so appreciated.. :'( p.s. wedding is in about 5 weeks..

I've been trying on my dress every couple of months just for this reason. Smiley sad Just because you weigh the same doesn't mean your measurements stay exactly the same; I haven't lost a ton of weight lately but I've been walking a ton more and lost a couple inches in my hips and waist. I think my pounds have only gone down 2-3 but I can notice a huge difference. I would say it depends on how well you lose weight - some people are really good at restricting what they eat and exercising more, and some are not. Also, letting a dress out can be difficult.

Eat healthy and exercise. The willpower can be difficult but it is the healthier option in the long run.

Drink plenty water. No pasta, sugar, rice or soda. Even if you not active, you'll be surprised in what eliminating stuff from your diet will do!

This might sound a little strange, but were you on your period at the time of your 2nd fitting?

Same question as April. I went for a fitting for a bridesmaid dress and it didn't zip as easily and felt tighter on me then it did about two weeks prior - reason being was I was about to get my period. I went a week later (for the fitting - luckily I had some extra time before the wedding I was in) and it fit much better.

I got off the day before. This was about a week ago. I already eat really health . March 16th was the last time I've had soda. (Proud of that, woo hoo!) I just don't know if I can lose enough weight or tone, or whatever before my wedding. Smiley sad I am so tempted to go buy a bigger dress! And I don't want to do that.. You know?

Actually, if you had just finished your period or were on it, then the bloating from it could have lingered and that's why it seemed to not fit. It's a common issue in the alterations world. Just try it once more and see how it does before you do a crash diet

Like I said, just try it again. If you had just finished your period, then the bloating was probably still lingering as well as any (excuse any of the language, but this is how the best seamstresses I know put it) "boob problems during your cycle" such as them being a little bigger with water retention and what not.

It may be worth considering having a corset put in. There are corset kits available on amazon.com.

ETA: I have not used them, but here are a few:

Dandelion tea will help with the water retention.

I'm going to the gym and eating healthy as well as putting in a corset, I definitely don't want to not be able to zip up my dress the day of.

Thank you guys. I will actually look into the corset idea. But if I have my dress altered anymore, I may as well just take out half an inch on the side, instead of changing the back of the dress. you know? I'm going to research that idea a bit.

Have you talked with David's Bridal? My sisters bridesmaid dress (from Davids) did not fit her and she was able to exchange it for a different size. I know it's a wedding dress, not a bridesmaid dress, but it might be worth talking to them. Also, do you have one of the bras that go down to your waist, like the corset? That's a good idea too!
