my diamond fell out

MrsBraddock, on September 6, 2009 at 9:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

Ive had this enangement ring since only May and last night i look down and my beatiful diamond is gone. I haave the lifetime warrenty from Kays, but its just the point.. I've been super stressed the past couple days and this just makes me even more bummed. Plus we are getting our e-session done within the next couple weeks and I want to wear my ring. I will see what Kays says today- just wanted to vent.

Well as long as you got it cleaned and inpected every 6 months they should have no problem giving you a new diamond. since its only been 5 months they better give you a new diamond without and word

This happened to a lady that worked in my building. Now I don't know were her ring was from or her upkeep on it, but they wouldn't replace it. She was told the insurance only covered if she lost the whole ring. Crazy right??? I hope eveythingn works out for you and you get the replacement in time for your pictures.

My diamond was loose and they told me that bed linens pull at it so try not to wear it to bed.

I lost one of the diamonds on mine as well... and I have only had my ring for a month :-( No word yet on when or how it's getting replaced... try to be happy that your FH got if from Kay's with the warranty... although waiting 4 weeks is disappointing, at least you know you'll have it back in time for the wedding...

Wow Megan C! That's so ridiculous!

lol, the store told my FI that if one of the diamonds ever fell out, to not even bother looking for it, just come in and they'll replace it.

Sorry Mrs. Braddock, hope everything works out for you.

My FH and I had my ring designed at Zales( Traverse City, MI store) and I had it one month almost to the day. and the center diamond of the cluster came out. Luckily I was in the car with my Mom, so I was able to find it. FH and I took it to a local Zales in Grand Rapids and they fixed it right away. They told me because it was a cluster of a lot of diamonds that I should not wear it to bed also. Good Luck MrsBraddock, I hope that it comes in early, and in time for your wedding.

Mrs Braddock I read the 9/11 survivor post about an hour ago and my reaction is the same. That just sounds B*$#@y of the salessperson. Not good customer service your a bride getig ready for the biggest day of your life and totally stressed and bummed about the ring already. That was perspective but not needed just then.

You know, I was a bit miffed about that comment, too. Yes, that was horrific, but that still doesn't change the fact that her job is to get you a new diamond.

I bet you she just lived in NYC. People that actually survive something like that would never think to compare a missing diamond and the event. I am sorry she said something like that, it was completely un called for! And as for your ring I'm sorry that super sux! And inspect the diamond they give you because usually the replacement diamonds are technically the same quality but often they will use a diamond that has a visible inclusion and there really isn't anything you can do about it unless you make a HUGE HUGE HUGE fuss. A word to everyone is to put it on your home owners/ renters insurance as an itemized claim and you will have a lot better luck getting quality.

I had no idea what to say to that comment. I was like Im not upset- Im more pissed than anything..and shes like well this is nothing, not to sound obnoxious- but who gets flustered over this.. I was like ya know what I do, I have had all these bumps in the road with wedding planning and she cut me off again and said go to kohls and get a fake ring for your e-photos if its not in before you have to get them done.

OMG who says that to someone! I mean its a great suggestion but for a stranger to actually say that to you! I would have been like is your manager available!? And if she was the manager I would have been like well I'm going to need your regional managers contact information.

My father in law had a wonderful idea that had worked for him and two co-workers. If you are fairly sure you lost it at home, wait until it gets dark, turn all the lights off in the house and get down on your hands and knees with a flash light and start panning the room. The diamond reflects the light differently and you might be able to find it. If you have already vacuumed it might be gone. Just a idea to try before you go the might save you some time if they try and charge you.

Man what a bitch i would of asked for the manager and had her fired for the comments she was making and the way she talked to you that was very uncalled for. and i'm sorry but kohls has real dimond rings too and they can be just as expensive as kay is as long as there isn't a sell going on. i just hope your ring comes back ok and that your dimond doesn't fall out again it.

Megan C - You are correct - bed linens, especially blankets are easily caught on prongs - bad news for rings, earrings, necklaces - anything with prong set stones. You should never sleep in any jewelry - or do housework, dishes, washing the car etc. Gold and Platinum are very soft metals - durable but soft and they scratch and bend. You guys have expensive rings on your fingers - would you scrub floors or make spagetti sauce in your wedding gown?
