My baker bailed

My baker bailed on my and my wedding is in October. All i've reached out to are now booked. I'm waiting to hear back from one here on WW, but I have a feeling she's out of my budget. I had thought I was past a supermarket cake. Don't get me wrong, those taste great, but I picked a cake I loved from...

I'm in Flat Rock MI. I was only paying 75 for the cake. I haven't found anything even close

This is why I'm enlisting the help of my mother and making cupcakes for the wedding ourselves. I don't trust anybody with important stuff that takes time xD.

Although, perhaps you can see if a baker will do cupcakes instead of a cake? they tend to be simpler and often less expensive than an ornately decorated cake.

We’re getting a two tiered cake for our wedding which only cost $250. If we wanted a three tiered cake it would cost $1000 plus artwork. If I had more than 30 guests then I would just get 2 two tiered cakes. Our place only needed a month advance but we wanted to make sure it would be done. You may just have to call around to get offers even if it isn’t in your town.

Another fun idea could be to get cupcakes and arrange them on tiers to look like a full wedding cake. It would be way more cost effective and it’s hard to tell if you get them at a baker versus a supermarket or Costco/Sams Club. I’ve been to a couple of weddings that did this and it worked and looked great! (Plus, you don’t have to worry about the cutting part and it looks nicer than a sheet cake.)

Oh no, Laura! Good luck finding a new one. I know it doesn't help, but at least she told you with about 3 months to spare so there's still hope in finding a new one. And like you said, if push comes to shove, you can always resort to a supermarket or Sam's/Costco.

That really stinks! Just remember people love food, Supermarket cake won't be something anyone but you remembers in a year.

I'm so sorry this is happening. Hopefully the new baker will fit your budget and taste even better than the original.

With less than three months though every one i've contacted is booked solid. My FH and I both had supermarket cakes for our first marriages and wanted something more special this time. I hope someone is free. 30 I contacted yesterday were booked

That's a thought, but we really want a tiered cake to cut. Neither of us had that for our first marriages and wanted something more special this time

I called 30 yesterday. I can't afford more than I was going to be paying. 250 is almost 3 times my budget. She at least told me and I wasn't left with nothing, but with less than three months all have been booked

I’m so sorry! Try Yelp, I found my baker there. They didn’t advertise on wedding websites or really anywhere but they had great reviews on Yelp and I got a good price. I didn’t have a big budget either.

I’m so sorry! That is awful! Have you tried asking for recommendations on Facebook yard sale pages? There are a lot of folks who bake cakes on the side. I found my baker through FB. She has excellent reviews and makes gorgeous cakes.

That's horrible on the baker's part. Do you have any friends or family that can bake? That might be a good way to go. Good luck!

No I don't. Even if I did though our venue wouldn't allow it. All food brought in has to come from a professional. My baker offered a person who she knew who is also a baker. I just got off the phone with her and it's double the price for the same thing I was getting. I don't have it in the budget.
