Music buffs... please tell me your favorite film scores or instumental music!

MsMermaid, on September 3, 2012 at 2:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We're having a semi-formal wedding in our backyard. We're wanting to play some light background music from inside the house that people can enjoy during the ceremony. We're wanting to go with instrumental music that's like classical music, but not the serious classical music you would hear if you went the symphony. A great example of what we're going for is film scores. Right now, I'm using some songs from the score from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Meet Joe Black", "Amelie", and "American Beauty". I also have some Eric Satie piano compositions. I need to come up with at least two hours of music. Now that you have any idea of what kind of music I'm hoping to find. Does anyone know of any light, romantic, music without any singing? Thanks everyone!

    My favorites are

"Last of the Mohicans" and "Braveheart"

I also think there are some nice songs on the "Twilight" score (not the soundtrack Disc, but the Score)

Ooh and there's always Vitamin String Quartet. I think their songs start to sound alike after a while but if there's a pop/rock song you love, chances are they've done it or something similar to it. I'm obsessed with their Coldplay covers.

And I love the UP soundtrack too. It's a little quirkier though.

I love Rachel Portman. She did Chocolat, the Cider House Rules, etc. You could IMDB her. She also wrote a beautiful opera that sounds like film scores! It's The Little Prince and, yes, it's based on the book.

You could also try some of the more modern string quartet music. Check out turtle island quartet as they often have stuff that might be good.

I guess my definition of serious classical music might be different from yours, but I think you might be into some of the lighter actual classical style music. Such as Haydn or Mozart (since they tend to have a more transparent sound that could definitely be background music). Their slower movements could really easily blend into the background, in my opinion.

The Fifth Element. The song is Il Dolce Suono from Lucia di Lammermoor. It's actual opera though so I don't know if it's what you're looking for but it's so pretty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdAZxeIHqJ0

Not from a movie, but I love Schubert's "Serenade"

Both are easily found as only instrumental.

There's also the August Rush soundtrack. It's a movie about music, and it does have some wonderful music.

If you like the music in Amelie, check out the movie "The Illusionist". The animated film directed by Sylvain Chomet.

Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Phantom of the Opera, Brave also had some AMAZING music. Elizabethtown had a few really good instrumentals as well.

And there are SO many others. I have a TON of movie soundtracks.

Pirates is my absolute favorite score. But I agree anything by Danny Elfman is fabulous..and don't forget the good ole Forest Gump main theme. I'm a sucker for that song. Smiley smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GFgwJiWaJE
