I met the man of my dreams through a friend that was trying to cheer everyone up. I was reeling from the drama of my daughter's "sperm donor," & Derek hadn't recovered from his divorce a few years back. Our friend Nial, would have a weekly "pirate night" where we would all get together to play games, watch movies, practice fighting (yes, swordfighting, he's huge into the SCA), have dinner, & sometimes a few drinks. I had been going every week until I got pregnant & started to faze out. After having Kailyn my mom & brother would take turns helping so I could get some very needed mommy-time. She would go with me every other week, & we would make those more G-rated nights. Nial had been telling me I needed to meet Derek for months, but thought noone worth having would want a new mom so I avoided it whenever I knew he'd be there. Finally Nial had had enough, almost all of our crew was going through some sort of emotional toil so he basically lied to get all of us there. The moment I saw him I actually told my brother that was him, the man I would marry! Over the next few months, he got to know me & my then 3mnth old daughter. We would txt/call everyday & hangout whenever we could. He amazed me with how much he grew to love my daughter. We moved in slowly so as not to disrupt baby's life too drastically. He has been there with us though everything. He can always make me smile & laugh. He is everything that I thought I'd never deserve! Fast forward 2years...I couldn't possibly love him more, he is the father my daughter never had (sperm donor has no interest in Kailyn whatsoever), and better than any Prince I could dream up! He in now NAVY reserve after years of active duty as well as a sheriff. He asked MY permission to contact a lawyer about adopting Kailyn after we are married so that she doesn't have to know her sperm donor didn't want her. He is the biggest nerd I've ever met, other than myself. We dork out on board & card games, we play D&D together, even went to an SCA event together. He had been feeling me out, unsucessfully, on jewelry for months so he just took me to pick out the ring! Im so incredibly happy & can't wait to be his wife!!!
