Calling all Star Wars junkies!!!

Andrea, on August 31, 2012 at 7:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 33

My FH is a nerd and I love him dearly... Star wars, marvel comics, he's a gamer... For our first Valentine's Day I bought him the Millenuim Falcon lego set. He said it was the best gift he's ever received. He really wanted a Star Wars themed wedding...

I did not agree to the Star Wars theme but I have been adding surprise touches to the wedding for him. He isn't really interested in planning. (Probably because I did not agree to walk down the isle to the Imperial Death March) I ordered him a Groom's cake that is in the shape of Darth Vader's head and I have done some other things to make the day special for him. I really want to add a touch of my FH personlity to the wedding and make him happy. He has this mind set that the wedding is all for me. He just wants me to be happy. Seeing him happy and surprised will totally make my day!

Does anybody have any Star Wars ideas that I can use to surprise him even more? Anyone planning a wedding with a Star Wars theme?

Thanks!!! Smiley smile

There is another bride on here that is having a geeky themed wedding, so I am sure when she logs on today, she will be able to help you!

I would love to incorporate some of FH in my wedding, as he's doing the same thing, "Whatever you want dear" but I don't know what to do.

    That cake is amazing!

Shannah, that is EXACTLY what mine keeps saying! It is driving me bananas so I have decided to just do things that I know he will love with out even telling him. The best part is that I sold some old jewelery from an ex to pay for it all so he has no idea and it isn't coming out of our regular wedding budget.

I don't know how I am going to last another 4 months without bursting! I am dying to see his reaction. Smiley smile)))))))))

What kinds of things does your FH like? Does he have a favorite football team? Does he have a hobby? Something the two of you love to do together? Could be something simple that you're not thinking of... I am here if you would like to bounce ideas off me.

I dug up my Star Wars figures and we each picked one to be our cake topper =)

Yeah *I* had the Star Wars figures...not him! (Hmph!) lol!

We are also incorporating one of our favorite Xbox games into the wedding. There is a game called Borderlands and in it there is this little crazy robot that you run into a bunch of times. He is making a 2 foot tall replica for our card box!

    1. Pic of Clap Trap from game

    2. Last pics I have of work in progress

He likes Baseball, Football, World of Warcraft, model trains, nothing that I want to incorporate into our wedding! Well, maybe WoW, as I've played too. I'd do a custom cake topper but not really in the budget and they're expensive!!!

John is a total geek and loves star-wars. He is doing the same thing your FI is doing to. "It's your day...so whatever you want." Drives me crazy. The cake is awesome. Love it. I'm adding robots and t-rex into our wedding.

Maybe you could incorporate a quote from star-wars into your ceremony. Or do star-wars cookie favors wrapped in cute theme appropriate (your actual theme) boxes. You could do a star-wars themed engagement shoot. John loves Boba Fett so some how one of our e-pics is him wearing a Boba Fett helmet and me in a hat. Check out offbeatbrides.com they have tons of ways to add geek to your wedding. Good luck!

My FH is a total batman geek. So he *had* to have batman cufflinks. I had a custom cake topper made to also incorporate batman, and we are walking into the reception to the batman theme, and my garter is batman themed as well. Maybe as a day of gift, you could give him Star Wars cufflinks?

*ahem* Welcome to my World. I am getting married on May the Fourth (be with you) Smiley smile

We are both Star Wars nerds. Our wedding will be a traditional ceremony however there are beautiful scores to walk down the asile or up it to from the various star wars movies. I will prob have the recessional be the throne room score (when Luke and Han get their medals)

Our reception is where geek meets vintage romance.

Our candy buffet will have cookies & chocolates molded in the shapes of various sci fi stuffs and our table names will be places and planets from sci fi. Like Hutta etc. The centerpieces are traditional floral, i may throw in an action figure or 2 per table.

I am off to a meeting right now but feel free to PM me or we can chat here for more ideas Smiley laugh

We're also getting married on May 4th..however, I didn't know this was Star Wars day until FH's best man pointed it out to us. We're not doing anything Star Wars themed, but what if you guys both had lightsabers when you walked in for your grand entrance or something?

We are getting married on "Star Wars Day". Neither of us are huge fans so we did not realize this when we picked that date. Some of our friends, however are a different story. One of our friends has this super awesome deluxe Darth Vader costume and I am currently trying to convince FH to let this friend "photo bomb" some of our photos. I think it would be hilarious to have Darth Vader as one of his groomsmen in the photo. You could do something like that. That way not ALL your photos are Star Wars, but there are a few that are!

You could give him and the guys little gifts like flasks or cufflinks (all available on Etsy)

You could do something similar for the action figure bouts...let me find the photo i am thinking of lol

We are huge fans of star wars though our wedding is a Masquerade ball I did incorporate some star wars stuff. The ring bearers will be walking down to star wars theme with lightsabers you could do that also cake pops are huge and easily can be made with that theme good luck.

I was in a wedding where we did the light saber grand entrance for the bride and groom. It was fun, and the groom was totally surprised.

As for him wanting you to walk in to the Imperial Death March, I can completely sympathize, my hubby wanted me to walk in to The Undertaker's theme song from the WWE. Needless to say, that didn't happen.

As huge Star Wars fans, we are doing a few things -

    1. Han and Leia cake topper
    2. Rebel Alliance cuff links
    3. our officient (and friend) will be wearing a jedi robe

And here is an idea depending on how far you want to take it:

If you contact your local 501st (Stormtroopers) you can request that they show up during you reception in costume. Ask for about 15 stromdroopers, a vader and maybe a boba fett. All they ask is a simple donation and it will be fun for the guests. Vader can come in to the imperial death march and do a little something with light sabers (I am having him death pinch our DJ) and walk around. They will only be there for 3 minutes and then leave.

It's a great surprise (and affordable) for FH. This is what I am doing for mine, although I am having Vader point to FH and having Stormtroopers abscond with him out of the room.

    Just some ideas!
