Multiple cakes?

Shanna, on June 9, 2016 at 1:57 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 33

Has anyone ever been to a reception with a small cake on every table doubling as a centerpiece? It's something I've been kicking around but have never actually seen it done. That way I can use all the cake toppers I've bought too since decisions are hard Smiley winking

It's an interesting idea. Would you have to have a knife and serving set on every table and have guests cut/serve themselves or have venue staff visit each table to do it. Logistically it seems a bit difficult.

I'm thinking guests help themselves? Not to downplay it but 80% of my guests are restaurant industry so we're all used to it! Plus not everyone eats the cake served so those guests could just opt out.

I think that would be cute. I wouldn't mind serving myself. It might get expensive depending on the number of tables though.

As long as you're OK with the pictures afterwards with cake crumbs ect... as your new centerpieces

We're only having about 50 guests so we would only need 5 cakes. It's like breaking bread with friends but sweeter! Honeylife your comment about half eaten cakes made me laugh. I really think I'd be ok with it though.

Un oh Shanna. Multiple duplicate posts. I would caution you against sitting ten people at a table. The professionals on here recommend a max of eight to make sure there is enough room for table settings and room for elbows when eating.

Yeah I am only planning on 50 guests but am having 7 or 8 tables to give people space. If you do that you need a 6 inch cake on each table... which will feed 6-10 people depending on the size the guest cuts. The typical wedding cake serving is 1" x 1" x 2"... most will cut them bigger if they are given the chance. I would say.. very cute idea, but seriously consider having a venue staff or caterer cutting it.

Would love to see the final product if you decide to do this.

I think that is a cute idea. A 6 or 8 inch cake would be perfect. And as long as you don't get too fancy with them the cost shouldn't be too outrageous. You could get plain cakes and add your own decorations to them.

This is a cool idea! I say go for it! Obviously there are logistics to figure out as the previous posters have mentioned but it sounds awesome!

I thought about doing this too. I decided to just go with one wedding cake and a groom's cake. I think it would be lovely to do small cakes on each table. I would want the vendor to do the cake cutting though. You could also consider a platter of individual sized decorated cakes, basically large petit fours. That would be very pretty and no one would need to cut them. Guests could just help themselves.

I saw this on Bridezillas...she made all of the cakes herself and it was terrible. It's a really cute idea, just leave it to the Pros.

Thanks for all the input! It's a destination wedding so I won't even be able to taste or see them till the day of. I like the petit fours suggestion. They would be on top of wooden wine crates so there would definitely be room to do that. It makes the centerpiece a little interactive too which I think could be fun. Appreciate the feedbackSmiley smile

Oh and I'm not overseating the tables, the restaurant where the reception is actually has 10-rounds. I guess it's just what they do.

I think it's a cute idea personally as long as it's all the same type of cake of course. Don't give one table one flavor and another table another flavor.
