Multiple Cakes vs. Big Wedding Cake

FH and I can't seem to decide if we'd prefer one big traditional cake or multiple smaller cakes in multiple flavors. Any thoughts one way or another? I suppose smaller cakes would be easier to transport vs the big cake... Also look at this adorable cake display

What planet is your FH from if he doesn't like cupcakes haha!

    We're doing a 2 tier cake with 90 cupcakes. 30 x red velvet, 30 x chocolate and 30 x caramel!

I love the look in your picture, so dainty and sweet!

Both at our wedding, and at my daughter's wedding, we had a bunch of different (home made) cakes. Ours were on tiered cake stands, with the highest one being the smallest, and the lowest one the largest. The cakes looked pretty much identical except for size, but they were different flavors.

At my daughter's wedding, a bunch of people volunteered to make cakes, so they were of all different types of appearance, but all were on identical stands made of wood slabs.

I think people care more about the taste of the cake than its appearance. And separate cakes take a lot less architecture, so they tend to be less expensive, even if you don't bake them yourself the way did. And if you do bake them yourself, you are much less likely to have a disaster like one layer sliding to the side if you just do separate cakes.

It's a matter of personal preference. FH and I loved a certain design for a tiered cake. We're having 4 tiers and they're all different flavors. I don't think there is a downside for either option.

We are doing multiple cakes, I've seen some pretty cute displays where they are tiered, or different cake stands. Also, it's easier to cut the cake if you don't have say the caterers.

It's pretty much personal preference. You can always do 2 small cutting cakes and have assorted flavor sheet cakes in the back as well.

We did a cake on every table! It made it a bit less formal and was very well received :-)

We have our wedding cake and then 4 different flavor cupcakes. When we were doing our cake tasting everything was so good we couldn't decide!

I ended up with 4 smaller cakes in different flavors, along with pies, eclairs, and cookies. I didn't have as many people, but I wanted a variety and I know some people *gasp* don't eat cake. At least, not with beer. LOL

We had lots of cakes. There was a 2-tier traditional white cake, six different flavored layer cakes, and a grooms cake.

We are doing a two tiered cake in chocolate and vanilla. We also want to other cakes in carrot and apple. This will be plenty of cake for all our guests and I think the display will be pretty.
