Movie Theater Wedding ideas

Kimberly, on November 25, 2019 at 10:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

Hello everyone! New here. I'm looking for ideas for a movie theater/concert venue wedding. It's a super unusual venue, so we're not totally sure what to do with it! We aren't 100% convinced that we want dancing, but if we do there is room for it in front of the stage. For using the screen, our current ideas are playing either an old school b&w romance with music playing over it, or some kinda supercut of the best romance scenes from tv/movies (like, Andy & April's wedding, Jim and Pam's wedding, things from non-Michael Schur shows that I can't think of right now etc) also with music playing over it (but probably with some sound if we go that route.)

Should we have dancing? What are the alternatives? This is my second wedding so I'm looking for something way more low-key than my first one, which was a big 'ol dancey barn wedding. We're looking at about 70 guests. Is that even enough for dancing? Should we have a DJ?

Happy to hear any ideas you have for a ceremony / reception at this place. It's an extremely reasonably priced venue and we'd like to keep the whole thing pretty low cost...we will have an open bar (there's a bar in the theater room and in the foyer-ish area) and probably a buffet-style dinner. I appreciate any input! Images included for help with ideas!

Sorry, where would people be seated for dinner? And where would you set up for dancing?

I went to a wedding in a historic theatre (more like play/orchestra theatre than movie theatre, mind you). The first 20-30 or so rows of seats were removed and tables and dance floor were set up in its place. The couple hired a live band who played on the stage. The theatre put something cute on the marquee about the couple. Wedding was a blast.

Same deal with the dancing space, stage front space can be made (if we want.)

There is space in the back of the theatre for dinner seating for 80 (where the cafe tables are in the photos.)
I have been thinking live band! Seems like a good option for the space.

It sounds like it could be amazing if done right. Would you have enough seating for everyone during dinner? If you can fit all of your guests would you also have room for a dance floor? It seems like that might help answer some of your questions. You can still play romance movies on silent or make your own video to play while guests mingle and hit the dance floor, if there is one.

    Hey Kimberly Smiley smile

What a unique and fun venue! I love the idea of having old romantic movies or clips from movies/TV shows playing.

If you wanted to do dancing, you could totally rearrange the area where you’re having dinner, move some tables out etc. to create some space or space for a band/DJ.

Will the ceremony be here also?

Sounds amazing! My FH and I love going to the cinema. It kind of depends on your theme: romantic, fun, elegant etc. But I will say, any wedding that had dancing is usually a fun wedding.
