Mother's Day Weekend Wedding - Flower Issues??

Deirdre, on October 14, 2012 at 6:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiance and I have set a date for our wedding and booked our reception venue. The wedding will take place on Saturday, May 10th 2014, which happens to be Mother's Day weekend. There were several reasons why we ended up choosing this date, which I won't get into, but I did have a little concern after reading some other posts about some florists not wanting to do weddings around Mother's Day, or wedding flowers being extremely expensive around the holiday. Is there anyone out there who's had a wedding close to Mother's Day who could offer up her experience/advice? I'd just like to get a sense of how early I should start trying to book a florist, and how much more expensive I should expect the flowers to be. Any information would be very helpful! Smiley smile

When i worked at a florist (now an independent florist myself) the prices were always higher. you can't just blame the florist, as the growers and wholesalers raise their prices because of the increase in demand, therefor the florists have to raise their prices as well. anyway.. how high they raise prices is different for each florist, and whether they take on a wedding is also on a individual basis. the florist i worked for would take on weddings if they were booked ahead of time. you have plenty of time to book a florist still, but i'd suggest at least 9 months before hand. the only thing that really annoyed us, was when someone tried to come in ON mothers day and try to place big orders for funerals or prom orders. we realize things like that happen, but you can't hold up the line that's out the door! haha. try going around to florists the week before v-day or this upcoming mothers day and just check to see what their price per stem is compared to what it is normally.

We will book for Mother's Day weddings 2014 right after Mother's Day 2013. We are one of the few florists in our area that will take a Mothers' Day weekend wedding. Book early! Plan that the pricing will be high. Be as flexible in your flower choices as possible to allow for her to even do your wedding.

Book as early as possible. Some florists who would normally handle two weddings in a night have no problem balancing one wedding and holiday flowers. I would start asking around ASAP!

I'm a date twin. I actually was about to post the same question when I found yours. Have you made any head way with a florist. I plan to book one soon.

@Jaimie, Yay! I've been hoping to find someone on here with the same wedding date as me Smiley smile I'm happy to say that my fiance and I ended up having no trouble finding a great florist. One of the things we did was start by looking at "event" florists instead of floral shops. By doing so, we encountered no florists that were unwilling to take on our wedding that weekend. It also helped to ensure that our florist would still be giving our wedding her utmost attention, since she won't be swamped with selling and creating retail Mother's Day arrangements that weekend. As some of the other brides have already mentioned in this post, the prices are inevitably a bit higher due to the greater demand that weekend, but our florist has had no trouble creating a contract that gives us everything we need while still staying within our budget. Good luck to you!! Smiley smile
