Mother's Day Wedding Ideas

Kate & Nick, on August 23, 2014 at 6:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I am looking for some creative advice! My wedding is planned for May 10th 2015 (5/10/15) which also falls on Mother's Day. This date is very special to my Fiance and I, and we wanted to get married on May 10th years before we ever got engaged. My mother and my Future Mother in Law do not mind sharing their day with us and there are no hard feeling around this date

But... I would still really like to to acknowledge that it is Mother's day in my wedding and do something to honor all the moms that are in attendance.

Some of the ideas that I have been thing of include;

1. Carnation at the place setting for all moms, and possibly attaching a free drink voucher

2. Having children sign cards and mail to them to me which I could place at their seat (this would take alot of pre-planning)

Does anyone have any awesome ideas that I could work on?

    Love that your fiance will be seating the mothers, but just something to consider. The church I serve used to give all mother's carnations on Mother's Day until we began to get a considerable number of people share their stories. Now while we still give carnations, we do so to all the females ('mother figures") whether biological mothers or not. Inadvertently we were causing deep pain to the women who were infertile, ttc with no success, miscarried a child, trying to adopt a child/suffered a failed adoption and lots of other situations. Only you know your guests to know whether one or more of your guests may be in a similar position.

    We went to a wedding May 10th (the day before Mother's Day) The couple presented their mother's with beautiful bouquets of roses during the ceremony. A few weeks before the wedding, they asked family member and friends (12) to write our favorite moment and saying of their mother's. The quotes were used as table numbers during the reception. Instead of toasts, we told our stories. The bride and groom had the stories and quotes put in books and presented them to their mothers.

    I like the idea of having something at the place setting of the moms!

    I like the idea of place settings or a bouquet, but don't go overboard with it.

    Kate, do you have your florist booked yet? If not, do so ASAP so they know they'll be doing your wedding in the midst of Mom's Day rush.
