I am currently in a huge fight with my mom about her mother of the bride dress. We are getting married next December and I told her I want her in a long dress. I am currently in a huge fight with my mom about her mother of the bride dress. We are getting married next December and I told her I want her in a long dress. All of my bridesmaids and my future mother in law are wearing long dresses. She keeps telling me I’m being a bridezilla and that she’ll wear whatever she wants and feels comfortable in. I am seriously losing my mind. Am I being crazy? I feel like she will look so out of place in a short dress and we will have these pictures forever. Please give feedback!!

Your mother is an adult, she gets to dress herself.

My mom wore an appropriate knee length dress with a matching jacket/wrap and panty hose. It looked great.

That’s good to hear. Maybe I am being a little controlling? I’m just worried about my future mother in law upstaging my mom. I want her to look like the mother of the bride and fit in with my theme

I agree with a pp. Let her dress herself and if she looks out of place that is on her. At the end of the day everyone will be so focused on you that it won't matter.

I totally get it! I just learned quickly in wedding planning that there were things I had to choose my battles on.

Oh sure. Do not let things like this stress you as you have a lot to worry about. Just let this go and drink a lot lol. Some mom's can be a challenge but lets hope she gives you s nice gift for all the headache. Smiley winking

My mother in law wore a long dress with a sparkly top, but it was still fine. It wasn’t a contest, I think they both looked gorgeous and they were wearing what they were comfortable in that suited their style.

I’m having a similar situation with my fmil because she likes to wear more revealing dresses than I do and wanted to get her dress from forever 21. Keep in mind she is in her late 50’s and not in the best shape! It’s hard to try and get to loom nice and appropriate without stepping too far. She really won’t be in any of the photos with the bridal party, but what I would do is take her shopping to a store that only has long dresses or go shopping with her and make it more of a positive experience in keeping her in track. If you can get one of her friends or an aunt to go shopping with her and suggest and push her towards the floor length as well. You are definitely not being a bridezilla to want her to looks nice for all the photos but try and get your way in a good way so it doesn’t hurt her feelings or your relationship. Good luck!!

There are plenty of shorter dresses that are very formal and will look fine. My husband's stepmother was in a short dress, she didn't look out of place at all.

Then treat her like one. We had a late November wedding and provided zero input on either of our mother’s dresses. My mom wore a long dress and my MIL wore a very elegant knee length dress. No one looked out of place.

My feedback is that your mother's comfort is definitely more important than pictures. Also, I am a big fan of picking my battles, and a dress is not something I would be willing to get into a huge fight about. Think of it as a gift to yourself, for your own sanity, to stop worrying about what she is going to wear.

I let my mom and fiancé’s mom pick whatever style and color they wanted. The colors don’t even go w my theme but I don’t care. I want them to wear what makes them feel good!
