Mother in law in bridal suite while you're getting ready?

So FH and I were talking about on-site hair and makeup (and he was so excited about it too lol) and he mentioned his mom wanting to be there. What are your ladies thoughts? Are you planning on having your FMIL there while you get ready? Or should that be a time with your ladies and your mom?

ETA: FMIL will not be getting her makeup done, she doesn't want to, so that won't be a concern.

FMIL is getting her hair and makeup done at the salon with us but will not be there when I get my dress on. I'm extremely private and NOT comfortable with her being there for that (even though we have a good relationship). Fortunately FH's family has pictures at the Church first so I'm getting dressed during that.

My MIL had her hair and make up done, too, so she was in the bridal suite during that time. I honestly don't remember if she was there after I had my dress on or not.

I'm going to ask FMIL if she wants to be in there with us.

If she says no, no big deal.

My FMILI asked if she could be with us when we get ready and I said sure. think it's sweet that she wants to be there. I didn't even bother to ask my mom because I don't feel it's her decision who is there. Sorry if this sounds rude, but it's seems to me your mom is being petty and a bit selfish by saying FMIL can't be there.

If she wants to be with us she can

But as there are going to be about 20 people in the house, I don't care. And god knows how many in the room either

I would have both mothers there. Everyone is excited about the new family! All that we do should be done in love to glorify God! This woman is about to be your family. Can you open your heart to the woman who brought the gift of your husband into the world and your life?

I think it could be almost disrespectful to your FMIL and your FH to not allow her any time with you and your girls. Although I get your mom's point and she should have some exclusive time with you!

It depends on what YOU want. I know my mom feels strongly about really having the "Mother of the bride" role. She does not get along with my dad or step mom AT ALL and would feel terrible if I had my step mom in the room, I would not want to create that kind of situation. As for my FMIL, I adore her but also think that should be time for just my mom and I. She can be in the room when her daughter gets married or help my FH.

Mine will be there while we get hair and makeup done and then she will go back to the venue to take photos with my fiancé. She won't see me in my dress until the ceremony.

We're having a big brunch the morning of the wedding and everybody in the bridal party (Mom's included) and the GM's wives. It will be fun.

Ladies, your opinions have been great, and I appreciate it. No offense taken regarding my mom and her posessiveness, I already told her she was being a turd for her comment and that it's my decision. I just wanted to see what other ladies had decided.

@MonkeysandBananas, I think so far your idea is the best ever Smiley smile I do love brunch! And by brunch, I mean mimosas.

No...nope....and no way. We get along but are not close. If we got along like I do with my mom and bridal party, then I think it would be fun. But we don't....plus I only want people there who have already seen me undressed!

You said she might be uncomfortable around your mom and BM so it's good you're taking that into consideration. My husband and I have been together 10 years. His mom is like my second mom and I spend a LOT of time with her. I will say that on our wedding weekend she was a completely different person. Dancing, drinking, wearing makeup (which I've never seen on her), being a little inappropriate, etc. She really got into the fun and the party and it was a blast. So there's a chance your fmil might do the same. Weddings can be so fun. We had a blast getting ready, talking, listening to music, etc. Give it a shot. At least include her for a little while but maybe just let her know you don't have any expectations so she can come and go. Also our guys did pictures before the ceremony and my photog wanted the in laws there early to do photos with the groom so my mil was the first to get hair and makeup done and she left about an hour before the rest of us. If yours feels like she has an out she might be more comfortable.

Thanks Abbiell, I'm glad you read that Smiley smile And that's good to know your fmil let loose! Maybe I'll talk to my photographer like you said and get FH and family's pics so she has an escape if she feels uncomfortable, and/or I can still give my mom the "mom-daughter" time she wants! Everyone's happy! Haha.

My future mother in law would be the last person on Earth that would be getting ready with me. She is one of the most negative people I know, and whenever I can, I steer clear of her. I've tried to be nice, be cordial, respectful but truth be told, my FH's mother is snakey and there's not a lot of people that can put up with her. However, it isn't your mom's decision to decide who would be getting ready with you. That would have been your decision. I know this thread is years old. LOL
