Mother in law in bridal suite while you're getting ready?

So FH and I were talking about on-site hair and makeup (and he was so excited about it too lol) and he mentioned his mom wanting to be there. What are your ladies thoughts? Are you planning on having your FMIL there while you get ready? Or should that be a time with your ladies and your mom?

ETA: FMIL will not be getting her makeup done, she doesn't want to, so that won't be a concern.

We are also getting our hair and makeup done in the hotel. I kind of regret saying something to FMIL. They are from out of town wanted me to set up hair and makeup for her and FSIL. Instead of finding a second person, i just scheduled their appointments with mine. Now, i figure since they have a suite we will have it all done there. I may hang out in my room with my mom and Moh while they get their makeup done.

Mine will NOT be there. That lady stresses me out like no other and I want to relax as I get ready. I mean we get along in general but she does not approve of my "way of life" (I was raised in the country so in her opinion "dirt" is my taste) I've been told many times "well it was rusty so I thought of you" "it reminded me of dirt so I thought you might like it" so as I prepare for my wedding on a ranch she is the last person I want there.

I invited FMIL, even offered to pay for her makeup, but she'd rather do it on her own time. it's fine with me, i just wanted to show that i was including her.

it sounds like it might not work well for you given your dynamics. is it possible to invite her to the tail end maybe? you'd have to come up with a good reason why you want her there but not at the rest of the process (you want pictures with her, you want her there for the moment that you put on the dress, you are serving some type of food in the last hour, you want her to travel with you to the venue, etc).

My mom and FMIL will be having their make up done my sister (MUA) and they both want hair done too…so yes they will be in the room but not for the whole day…I get along great with my MIL. I don't want a super crowded room the whole day though, but that's probably how it will turn out lol.

I don't care. I'm sure people(ladies) will be in and out all day. It doesn't bother me. And FMIL doesn't have a daughter to enjoy this with, and I already look to her as a second mother to me.

@ger, that's not a bad idea, finding a way to include her towards the end would be good!

Ladies, it's not that I do or don't want her to, I don't have a huge preference, but I don't want her uncomfortable! And I know my bridal party is very comfortable with my mom and they are wildly inappropriate and loud and obnoxious, and I love them for it, but FMIL is the opposite.

Wow I am going through the complete opposite. I WANT her there but she absolutely doesn't want to see my dress or me in my dress before I start walking down the aisle. I have paid for her hair and makeup. She is resisting, but I am going to have her appt first thing so she can get in and then go back to her room. I will get my way, though.

I think the most troubling aspect is the fact that your mom appears to be calling the shots. Considering our relationship I would not mind having my mother in law there, but if it became problematic I would let both parties know that they can either play nice or can just not be there at all.

I think it'll probably just be me and my MOH - I'm not even sure if my other bridesmaid can make it down the night before due to work and finances (she's getting married a few weeks later so I totally understand!). I don't think my mum would want to be there, and I think my FMIL would rather be with FH than with me.

I don't know though, it might all be chaos on the day!

My mom, stepmom, FMIL and FstepMIL are all welcomed with open arms to get ready with us at the house - but my mom and all the other moms really love each other and have a great time together, so no biggie. I think your mom is being a MOBzilla to be honest.

Everyone was welcomed and popped in and out of our suite that day. My MIL came in while I had on sheer panties. A little awkward, but whatever!

My FMIL will be doing my make up so yeah she will be there. I love her to death though so it's all good.

This is something I would have never even thought about. My FMIL is getting hair and makeup done with us at the salon. I assume she'll be in my hotel room when I get dressed, but not positive. Either way, I'm totally ok with it (especially since she only had sons!)

All the girls will be with me, so I'm not worried about this. If my mom said that I would tell her, no and that she was being ridiculous.

The wedding I'm going to be in she isn't having her mom or her FMIL. She barely speaks to her mom so she prefers neither are there so there aren't any hurt feelings. Just us BMs and the bride. Plus they are having alot of crazyness with the FMIL (with wedding planning) and crying so she doesn't want the added drama that day.

@GameCox - that just made me laugh... "I will get my way" Smiley laugh

I say it's up to you, not your mom or anyone else. I understand her possessive feelings - you're her only daughter, etc. - but ultimately it's your decision. If you feel FMIL would be uncomfortable, then maybe you could just do something as GER suggested.

I don't think either my mom or FMIL will be there when I'm getting ready. We've never really discussed it.

I would maybe murder someone if my FMIL showed up.

First and foremost it needs to be your decision, not your mothers. Take her feelings into account but she also needs to understand yours. I was originally going to have both with me along with some of my BMs which I was really looking forward to all the girls being together but FMIL ended up wanting to go to her regular hair person (so she doesnt have to go out of the way) which I was totally okay with. Now I am actually looking quite forward to having that special time with my mother and my MOH. I am excited that it will be more inimate now. Originally my Grandma wanted to get her hair done with me also but I was worried because she tends to stress me out lol. She means well but she can rile me up pretty easily without meaning to so without FMIL being there I'm going to ask to just spend that time with just my mother. I think its nicer just having my mother, MOH, and I there because it won't take too long either so I can have a little extra time to sleep/eat/write FH a letter etc. I'm really looking forward to it!

Most likely both " moms " will be there with me along with my bridesmaids. But my situation is a bit different, as i will only be putting on my dress in the suite, all of my makeup and hair will be off site.

I think its great that your fmil wants to and is excited about being with you during that prep time. Your mom is probably just feeling a little territorial (which is okay). But ultimately, its up to you and you want around you at that time.

The monster-in-law will not be getting ready with my mom, my bridesmaids, and me. I've had way too many problems with this woman recently and I want to spend as little time with her as possible on the day of the wedding. She is just the most controlling, stubborn woman I've ever met!
