Moody Gardens in Galveston

CKJL5410, on January 20, 2011 at 4:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Has anyone ever had or been to a wedding here?? I am looking in Galveston for some destination wedding locations, and this one caught my eye. If not, any other recommendations besides the ones I have received on my post from last night?'

THanks!

I am in Boston, nothing will be expensive compared to here. I found some hotels in Galveston, Filet is $42 a person, up here, at least $100, and thats a nice hotel there compared to a lower scale one here... I am zoo excited to be getting Texas pricing Smiley smile

I would suggest the San Luis Resort! It's beautiful, and they have lots of weddings there. Also, since you have so much time! Consider one of the old churches.

They are at the top of my list, I have e-mailed them, gotten prices, and e-mailed again for some pictures. Have you been to a wedding there? How recent if so?

Moody Gardens is nice! I've shot a couple of weddings there. The hotel is nice, but the whole complex does have a bit of an amusement park feel to it. You'll have a lot of park visitors roaming about your ceremony area, until closing time, when your ceremony would probably begin.

Keep in mind it gets HOT down here...REAL hot. The last wedding I shot down there was this past July, outside in the "Herb Garden"...and it was torturous! My eyes were burning so bad from the sweat that I could barely see the viewfinder. I felt bad for the guests and bridal party in suits/tuxedos...and the bride in her heavy dress. After the short ceremony, the hotel provides a shuttle bus to take guests back to the hotel for the reception, which is a ways off (too far to walk).

I don't shoot weddings down in Galveston anymore, but if you'd like to see a wedding video shot at Moody Gardens, I'd be happy to send you one! If so, email me your name/address: rusty at rustybryce dot com

    Good luck!

I would love to see the video!!.. and to hear any venues you have been to in Galveston.. E-mailing you now Smiley smile

PS I know better than to have a July wedding in south Texas. We are probably going to move it to March, the only reason we were going to have it in June is that it was going to be in Boston and thats the only nice month we really get Smiley sad

I photographed a wedding at Moody Gardens. It was beautiful, but it was really hot (during the summer and outdoors). Anyway, depending on the time of year, I think you will love it.

Mine will be in March, most likely. Any chance you have any pictures you could show me?

    Or any other Galveston suggestions?

Becareful, March is a HUGE tourist season in Galveston due to spring break.... beaches riddled with college students, hotels booked solid, etc. Prices sky rocket for the entire month of March for food, gas, hotels, etc. I was just at Moody Gardens a few weeks ago and they are doing some major renovation to one of the pyramids -- so you might want to check on that and make sure it is scheduled to be done prior to the wedding. I also agree with a few other posts that Moody Gardens does have an amusement park feel, especially with the water park right near by. I would bet it would be pretty crazy during spring break season as well... I would stick with haveing the ceremony/reception at San Luis Resort if possible. There are quite a few historic churches in Galveston too.

Hmmm... Well we can wait until April, you think that even if we do it at the hotel there will be kids everywhere? I am not religious, and don't think we will be getting married in a church.... my wedding isn't until next year, but ill check on the renovations, thanks! I sent them an e-mail, we will see what they say

Let me see if my gallery of images is still "live". If not, I might have some on my FB site.

OH I forgot about Spring Break. Most of the schools in this area split the break over several weeks either in late march/early april. The reason... over crowding in Galveston.

We were thinking early march.. 03/03/12... Would that be early enough to avoid spring break?
