Mom not coming to wedding

Christina, on July 9, 2019 at 3:47 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 6

Looking for advice.......my mom is driving me insane!!!! She has not spoken to one of my sisters in over a year. As of this week she has decided that it's best that she not come to the wedding because she feels my sister is trying to destroy her. Shes also upset because I won't get in the middle of their issues and like she says stand up for her. I honestly think they both are in the wrong in some way. My sister has agreed to not cause issues at the wedding and even allow her children to interact with my mom. My mom is aware of this. Long story short my mom is super dramatic and has very selfish tendencies. So my question is, should I send her an invitation even though she stated in her email she is not coming to the wedding or do I just take what she wrote me as her final RSVP??? I'm so over the drama! Thanks!

Wow! what a horrible position for you to be put in! it sounds like your sister is at least trying to put you first. I'm so sorry! I would probably still send her one, if you don't she may take that as a snub or you taking your sister's side. At least you will be the bigger person and try.

I definitely agree with PP, send one anyways.

I would still send the invitation and then she can decline. I’m still sending some invites to family members who’ve said they aren’t coming. Im secretly hoping when some time has passed and they see everything written out beautifully on the invite they’ll reconsider. And if not at least I tried. I think the drama would be double if they could honestly say “she didn’t even invite me!”

Oh this is awful! I commend your sister for being more mature and setting aside her differences with your mother for your day. My mom is also selfish and full of drama. I would still extend the invite. She knows the ground rules with your sister and is obviously only trying to keep the drama going. I am sure she will "come to her senses" and come to the wedding. The last thing you want to do is give her more ammunition for drama by not inviting her. Put the ball fully in her court (with a formal invite) and make her decide. I pray it all goes smoothly for you!

Personally I'd tell her to go someplace uncomfortable and never speak to her again for trying to ruin a wedding, never mind my wedding.
Now the moral thing to do would be send and invite anyway.

As PPs mentioned, be the bigger person and send her an invitation. She can't say you didn't try then! I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this. Hope everything ends up well!
