Modesty, what modesty?! Oops! Help?

Kelly, on December 8, 2016 at 2:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

I am normally not a bare flaunt figure girl...BUT I fell in LOVE with a spaghetti strap mid dip back with the girls getting a bit more attention then normal up front. Not sexy or anything, but definitely not my norm. THEN our last counseling meeting the Priest asks that I try to keep the bridesmaids modestly dressed. Thankfully I let my girls pick their dresses and all went for comfort so no problems there. But, me?? The dress is a lovely classic ivory and lace. SO, ANY IDEAS? I am so far as to see if I could sell back my dress, or resell it. I have had suggestions of a long veil, but that won't help the low cut factor up front. Just looking for other views. Maybe someone has a great idea I haven't thought of yet -that would be awesome LOL TIA Smiley smile

You could get a modesty panel sewn in the cleavage area to cover up the girls. Basically just a little piece of fabric sewn right between the cups, usually made of some sort of mesh material.

Picture? I was going to sat what kind of church limits dress and then I thought of more than one, so I have nothing else to add except, would you rather sell your dress than find a new place to get married?

Pictures - we can't honestly help you.

At the very least post a picture of the model of the dress.

honestly I'd tell the priest to stuff it IMHO- fucking men telling women how to dress for years. I have no time for such shennanigans.

I just wouldn't worry about it. Leave your dress how you love it.

Can you find a picture online? It's impossible to tell you if it's too low cut or make suggestions based on your description.

I'm not sure what to suggest without seeing your dress, even if it's just a picture from the designer's website.

My seamstress made a lovely jacket from the leftover fabric (I'm short) and I loved it so much I kept it on most of the day.

I gave my dil a pashmina to throw over her shoulders if she wanted to.

Thank you Kelly! I wanted her to slice off the whole train, being old and all and she said NO! She wanted to keep the lace and it was the easiest bustling thing ever as you can tell from dancing with my son and his father in lawSmiley smile

You might want to share your dress with your priest. Did you not speak with him before purchasing? Lots of churches don't allow spaghetti straps or strapless dresses. The veil should help for the back though. Your seamstress may be able to sew a modesty capelet that can be buttoned/snapped into the top of your dress to add coverage for your chest for the ceremony. Or, you could get a second dress for the ceremony and wear the dress you chose for the reception.

Might be an UO but your priest absolutely does have the right to limit what you wear in the church. However, you also have the right to choose a different church.

Well your veil will help cover your back (if you're wearing one) and the front doesn't look that revealing to me. I was imagining a much deeper neckline based on your description.

Picture! But you could also do a little lace "jacket" that buttons in the back for more coverage

Why the hell would she speak to her priest about a dress she's buying?

That's a HUGE over step IMHO. It's none of his god damn business. You call up your gyno too for a dress opinion?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that dress.
