Missing Man/ Fallen Soldier table

Joanna, on August 4, 2017 at 11:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 41

My FH has been in the military for 26+ years and is very much wanting to have a table set up at the wedding to honor, not only fallen soldiers who he has known personally, but all of the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for out country. I am so honored to be marrying a man who loves his country and wants to pay tribute in such a meaningful way.

The issue I am running in to is that I keep seeing different ways to set the table up. The main difference being that some tables are set with a red ribbon on the vase and others with a yellow ribbon. I just want to make sure that it is done appropriately. Has anyone had this or seen this table set up before? Any recommendations or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a red white and blue ribbon? Or a folded flag?

If I remember correctly, yellow is for the soldiers who haven't returned home yet as a reminder that we're thinking of them etc (see "tie a yellow ribbon round the ole oak tree" lyrics). Unsure about red.

I'd honestly ask your FH how'd he like to set up the table and what the most appropriate way of honoring the men and women would be.

@Future Mrs D - I will def do that. Lol

@ Sarah - I have seen a couple set ups with the folded flag. I'll check with FH how he feels about that. I know the ribbon is very specific to either yellow or red though.

@ Becky - he's unsure too. I've seen a mix of yellow ribbons and red ribbons. From what I can tell, the red is for hope. I feel like the yellow ribbon would be better understood though.

@ Kieryn - Thank you! I kept doing generic Google searches. I don't know why I never thought to go to a military Chapel site. (There's my "duh!" moment for the day lol).

I'm pretty sure the yellow ribbon is appropriate. You can never go wrong with red white and blue though. I think this is awesome! Thank you to your FH for his service.

Yellow is for those deployed, red for their sacrifice and hope for safe return(I think) and black for those missing, or POW.

There is a specific way this table should be set up. Do the research to make sure it is done properly.

What a lovely gesture to include. I've been to several events with a Fallen Comrade table. They are always a poignant reminder and a nice way to honor those we have loved. Keiryn was on the nose with what to place on the table.

I think a brief write up explaining what the items are would be helpful for people to understand the purpose of each element. The script in the photo has been read at the events I've attended and also placed at the table.

The Navy website has a slightly different description than Military Chapel:

@ Taylor & Carolyn - thank you for those suggestions!

The more I see the variations of this table the more relieved I am that there are multiple ways to do it and they are all ok.
