Mismatched suits?

Meghan, on November 23, 2014 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

We were thinking of letting our groomsmen wear whatever suits they already own probably in different shades of grey or black and having them all have matching boutineers to tie it together. Would this look too messy? Has anybody seen this done?

I have seen many mismatched bridesmaids pics but nearly have not seen mismatched groomsmen.Maybe you can find the inspiration from the Pinterest!

Ehhh...it wouldn't be my preference. No, I haven't seen it done.

Tie them all together with the same colored ties and boutonnieres.

We're letting our groomsmen wear their own black suits. To tie things together we're going to provide matching ties and boutonnieres. I'm not a fan of bridal parties being too "matchy-matchy", so I'm also letting the bridesmaids wear their own black dress (with a little input from myself).

Yep! We are asking ours to wear a plain black suit, white shirt, and black tie. It is so low stress, and I have every confidence they will still look great! Honestly, I think matching suits/tuxes rented from somewhere looks a bit strange, though I know others enjoy it.

I think it can be a very cute look! If my groomsmen all owned suits (that fit them) I would totally have gone this route. Smiley smile

Not a fan of this idea unless it's plan black suits you're going with but the mixture with black, gray and tan, IMO takes away from the classiness of the wedding.

Personally I would not do the mismatched suits, but it's your day so do what you envision and feel.

We're thinking of doing the same. We're going to do either khaki or gray, but I don't think I'm gonna pick out a specific pant they'll have to rent/buy. Just tell them the color. For a casual wedding I think it'll look fine.

Eta: and yeah, we'll use ties and bouts to tie it all together.

I'm all for the mismatched bridesmaid look, but I have to say I am definitely not feeling the mismatched groomsmen. If it's not in their budget and you can't cover it, I guess do what you gotta do, but I would try to avoid it. It may look good in a professionally staged wedding photo shoot but it has pinterest fail written all over it IMO.

If you are worried about saving them money, they should have known that when they accepted the invite to be GM that it would involve renting/buying something to wear.

I'm not a huge fan of the mismatched look for groomsmen or bridesmaids. However if you are thinking about it and all of the groomsmen already have suits, you could do a trial run to see how it looks. Have them all put their suits on together and see if you like it. If you don't like the trial run then you can get matching suits or tuxes.

I like it. A bunch of handsome guys in suits they feel comfortable in beat matching tuxedos that are cheap and ill-fitting any day of the week, IMHO.
