Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses

MegAn, on October 19, 2017 at 2:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 53

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to have my bridesmaids (1 MOH 5 maids) do mismatched dresses for my wedding. I see so many pictures on Pinterest, as well as real-life in recent weddings, that I adore the style of. I like the idea of each maid choosing her own dress - it could be from Target or Davids Bridal or whatever.. as long as it's a certain tone (I'm thinking maroon/burgundy), long, and not too flashy.

Has anyone done something similar? Do you think I should have each maid show me their dress before they buy it? Anything else I should think of before telling my maids to start looking?

I am doing this, but don't have any pictures yet since my day hasn't come yet. I told them all long chiffon Bill Levkoff dresses in one of 3 colors (petal pink, wisteria and plum). I went shopping with 5 of the 8 of them so I saw all their's first and the other three sent me pics, even though I didn't ask them to. If you give them a certain set to work with there's no need to see them before hand because you've seen all the options they can go with.

I recommend having them order from the same store to maintain cohesiveness. Maroon from Target won't be the same maroon as David's Bridal.

I'm planning to do this with unionstation.com.

I did totally mismatched. 2 of my girls were in Washington while I am in AZ.

They loved getting to pick their own dresses in color and design. It turned out nicely and all the girls were happy!

I did fully mismatched. I just told my BMs to choose a dress they liked in a shade of grey from wherever. It ended up working out well--I can see how it might not, but I was ok with leaving it to fate (I know not everyone would be though)

I'm doing this, I just told them Davids bridal and the color sangria. I have a few different body types and wanted everybody to be comfortable. I picked a day everyone was available and let them have at it in the store.

I'm doing black, in which case matching the color doesn't matter so much so they can get them from wherever. Maroon can be very different shades with some more pink some more purple some more red so they could clash if it isn't the same store/designer

Mine are all different material and design but the same color and all long. We all went to David's Bridal together. Dont have pictures because we are still 6 weeks out but I think it's going to work nicely. I only have 3 attendents.

I am doing mismatched. i told the girls gold and sent them some ideas but they all get to choose their own, whatever length and from whatever store. I am honestly most concerned about them being comfortable. most of them are choosing to wear long gold dresses and they all have a similar style so they look pretty uniform.

We did this. My BMs and I agreed on using Alfred Angelo and I picked the color and length, and they all picked a dress in the style they preferred. Using the same store/designer helps guarantee that the dresses will all be the same shade. If you decide to go with different stores/designers, then my suggestion would be to get swatches of the shade of maroon you like and give the swatches to each BM so they can tell if the shade of the dress they're looking at is close to the one you want. That could be more work for them, though. Or maybe give then a palette of shades you'd be okay with so there's more than one color they have the option to match.

That's what I'm doing, and it's so much easier having them pick their own. I told them a couple colors/shades, and floor length, then letting them pick the style. Mostly cuz I want them to like the dress and feel comfortable, but also because I'd go crazy picking a dress for them since they are all different. I'd have them show you just to be sure, but I haven't had to ask mine to show me they automatically are sending me potential dresses lol

ETA azazie was an option, but 3/4 so far have found dresses under $100 on various websites

I had my BMs get their dresses from wherever. And it worked out fine, IMO. They ended up getting their dresses from: Amazon, David's Bridal, Lulu's, and BHLDN. I just told them to pick out a floor-length, champagne dress.

I want mixed color but not so much mixed style. However my two bridesmaids are likely going to be my friend and my baby sister whose reaction when I ask her will be "Do I have to wear a dress?" So I've picked out a few dresses that look the same from afar but have minor differences. One is a more tomboy style for my sister, while the others are more feminine for my bridesmaid to choose from.

I was in a wedding with little direction and it was horribly stressful. Give them a color palette (I was told any yellow... but then the bride vetoed some yellows), length and fabric. Maybe send some styles to emulate.

I went a similar direction as PPs. All in the same color, fabric, length and designer. They chose the style. I gave MOH the option of choosing a different color, but she ended up matching the BMs.

    ETA: clarity

That's exactly what I did. I told them "floor length in burgundy, more red than purple"

And they bought them from Amazon, Charlotte Russe, and Lulus.

It totally worked out because 2 of them are a "normal" burgundy and the other 2 are a darker burgundy.

They're completely mismatched, which is fine with me!

I would maybe pick a designer and color and then they can pick the silhouette because something like burgundy or maroon has so many shades that it may end up clashing a lot
