Minimony was such a blast, how to tell guests big wedding is cancelled.

Paige, on March 30, 2021 at 1:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
After being engaged for over 2 years we didn’t want to wait any longer. We had a minimony on the original day we planned on getting married 10/10/20. We had pushed the big ceremony & party to May 2021 but are now cancelling due to many reasons both Covid related and not. How do I tell everyone that we cancelled the big wedding.

Our minimony ended up truly being the best day we could have ever imagined.

Did you send out invites to the big ceremony?

If not I probably wouldn't say anything to them unless they asked if it was still happening. Then you can just say no, we decided to not do the big ceremony anymore. And leave it at that.

Did you send save the dates? Just send out announcements that you eloped and leave it that. No need to mention a big ceremony.

The renewal is not a wedding.

If you already sent out invites, I would send out a cancellation notice to simply say "we have decided to cancel our larger reception." I don't think you owe any further explanation, unless you want to give reasons. That's up to you.

When we postponed the first time, I ordered regular business postcards from Vistprint and customized them with the details and our new date. They have templates, but you're paying for the word "wedding" with those ones. I paid maybe $40 because I got them overnighted so we could get them mailed out quickly.

Just explain that you were married on (date) and while you wish that everyone could have been there, there are no plans for a rescheduled celebration at this time.

Its awesome that your minimony was such a great experience. I think its totally fine to tell your guests "we couldn't wait" and that the big wedding is canceled. They will understand.

But you should let guests know ASAP that you have made this decision, so they can alter their travel plans (or just free up that day on their calendar) and so they don't feel left in the dark or find out the big event was canceled in some other way.
