Millennial Wedding Gift Trend

The Bride, on July 6, 2019 at 9:53 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30

There is a new gifting trend taking millennial weddings by storm, instead of asking for kitchen equipment and things of that nature, engaged couples are asking their friends and family members to send them money through PayPal, Venmo, and even the CashApp.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with this millennial wedding gift trend? Why or why not?

I also fall under the category of being a millennial. My husband and I had a traditional registry but most of our family and friends gave us cash in a card. Honestly having the money sent straight to our bank accounts would have been just as nice Smiley xd

That's true..I think it's one of those things that people can give you cash on their own but I don't think it's cool to ask for it sort of thing but everyone is different 🙂

We have both a traditional registry and we are registered with Honeyfund which will help us pay for our honeymoon through PayPal so I suppose we are doing the “millennial trend” but we provided two options for people to pick what made them comfortable!

I don’t think this is actually a trend and no, I don’t agree with it. Super tacky.

I don't see why this is labelled as a "millennial" trend

That's a good idea, you and your future husband will also get the best of both worlds.

Apparently a lot of millennials are telling their guest to just send them money through an app. Are you and your future husband doing that?

I am a millennial too and definitely haven't heard of this... we have a honeyfund as part of our registry, but we also have a "traditional" registry! I am sure some people will give cash (some have hinted that to me already), but I can't imagine asking for money that way!

Look into it, I didn't make it up. And I also have friends who have done it.

All the normal stuff! Kitchen and home products, such as blender, pots/pans, vaccum, etc.

Oh okay, my husband and I asked for a new bed and bedding but our guests just brought the bedding and gave us tons of cash.

I don’t know anyone who has asked for cash and that would be incredibly frowned upon in our social circle. I think one of the issues with labeling things a “millennial” thing is that while people doing this may be millennials, this is the first generation where there is going to be so much noticeable difference between the beginning of a generation and the end of one. If you were born at the beginning of the generation, you were an adult or almost an adult before social media and these forms of paying people were even existent. If you’re toward the end of the generation, you weren’t even a teenager yet when Facebook changed from college only to 13+ and the social media/app platforms took off, including all these online payment services.

Food for thought - in some cultures it's not typical to have a registry, people just do cash in envelopes and it is pretty expected. One friend said she made a registry just to make the few American ppl comfortable!
