Military brides - Changing name tapes at wedding

Hello!

I am in the Air Force, I've seen tons of "military brides" posts, the bride being a civilian and the groom being military. My Fiance is civilian and I (the bride) am Military. I've been wanting to do something creative with the changing of my name tapes on my uniform at my wedding but unsure what might be best or most creative since I've never seen anyone else do this and can't find anything online.


For anyone unsure what I'm talking about:

Name tapes are your last name on your uniform. Air Force recently switched uniforms and we now can have Velcro (which would make for an easy switch).


I want to do something where either he or myself switch the name tag/tape in front of everyone, I don't know if it should include full uniform, or just the top. If this should be before or after other events, etc. Thanks in advance! Smiley smile

    I have an idea but not sure if it would work for your wedding or not.


    There are a few questions that would need to be filled in. If you are wearing a wedding dress then maybe you could put your military top over your dress when you make your exit and he change it just before you leave for the night. It would be symbolic that you are leaving with a new name.(I know this would not be within uniform regs) but it would be really awesome if it could work.
    Another thought I had was similar to this but do it during the first dance and change it out while you have your first dance.
    I was prior military but I have never seen something like this done. It is such a cool idea to do it with friends and family. Hope this helps!!!

    I think it would be super cute to do this with your FH as kind of the Unity Ceremony. You and you FH take your old name off and put your new name on together. If you didn't want to do it as part of the ceremony. I would do it right before the first dance or cake cutting.

    Marine Corps veteran here! So my only concern with having this in your ceremony is that people might talk poorly about it. One, you won't actually be of that last name yet so you are begging for "not in reg" comments. Also, so many military active, reserve, and veteran status find that using the uniform in this matter to be cheesy. I've heard people talk and I am sure you have too. I just wouldn't want these photos from your name tape changing ceremony to be the next picture they poke fun at.

    Don't change into the uniform. That sounds like a logistical hassle. Have your FH hold up the top while you change the tape during the ceremony, so everyone can see. Like a unity ceremony

    DEFINITELY! This is mostly whats slowed down any of my ideas. Definitely staying wary of the possibility it could go a totally different way lol. BUT If I can think of something tasteful I would definitely love to incorporate this into the wedding Smiley smile Thanks for the advice!
