My MIL said she is going to wear black dress to the wedding, I have never been a fan of black to weddings. I know a lot of people do white/black wedding themes but I just dont like it. So MIL said she bought her dress from Nordstrom (which i really dont care if Obama himself gave it to her) & she is planning on wearing it to our reception.

Both SIL planning on wearing black also. my colors are blue/yellow. even if they accessorize it or put different belt color on, or shoes..

I know 1 of SIL wont listen & she will wear the black dress.. the other possible to change her opinion.. but my main concern is MIL.. I DO NOT want her to wear black.. I feel like she is going to the funeral & not her son wedding.

How can I tell/ask her not to wear black.. I already told her twice, but she still saying she will wear it.. I told DH to tell her also...What do you ladies think?

Eh black is 1 of my fave colors so it doesn't bother me. But have you considered it might be the way they believe? I know my aunt is from Colombia South America, and when her and my uncle got married, her entire family wore black to the wedding, my uncles side thought it was weird, but thats how they did things

@Michele S - and bridemaids are also asked, it's a choice. When you accept you know what you are getting into. MOG isn't a chosen position. Not really an apples to apples comparison.

While I do think it's nice to try and accommodate but as I understand it the MOG isn't from the Ukraine and the wedding isn't in the Ukraine so cultural respect can go both ways. the MOG isn't wearing black to be malicious. For example my husband isn't American. In his cultural they great everyone with a kiss on the cheek. I had to remind him the men in his family should not greet the men in my family this way - instead a handshake is more appropriate. And if the wedding had been held in his native country I would have taken the time to educate the men on my family how to appropriately greet someone in that country.
