I've had migraines since I was 7. My period usually makes them worse. I finally went to the doctor and they prescribed me Imitrex that's supposed to get rid of them, but I had really bad jaw pain from it so now I'm taking Cafergot which is very concentrated caffeine and something else. It works for me. Also menthol and mint helps too. Migraines are caused from too much blood rushing into your head. So anything that helps close those vessels will help.

I have them but not to the point of needing prescription meds. However, when they hit me they hit. Half of the time I can feel them coming and half the time they sneak up on me. It's the ones that sneak up on me that are the doozies! The trigger event (stress of some sort) can happen a week before the migraine appears. It's super weird. They usually shut me down meaning I have to go to sleep to deal with them. OTC Excedrin Migraine is the only med I take along with heaps of caffeine via (chocolate and soda).

Yes I do!! I dread the same same. I take treximet which you take right at the onset of a migraine. It make you a little more sensitive the rest of the day but always works.

Don't drink the night before, plenty of water and possibly a Benadryl.

I take relpax when I get them - however, since I've figured out my triggers (a perfume allergy was one of my major issues), I don't get them much anymore - hopefully your doctor will be able to figure something out for you.

I've have "migraines" probably once every two months. (skull fracture and multiple concussions here. TBI headaches aren't always considered migraines, but there's no other way to describe it). My nuerosurgon and neurologists tried different medications with me, but I would either get sick or it just wouldn't work, so now I just deal with it.

When it hits, I usually drink a bottle of Gatorade and sleep it off. My fiancé is amazing when they hit. He's usually the one bringing me the Gatorade and whatever else he thinks I would need.

@AQuixotic, I am glad I'm not the only one who feels like their skin is on fire after taking abortive migraine meds. My neurologist looked at me like I was crazy, but it feels exactly like having a sunburn. Not to mention ALL my muscles get sore.

@OP, talk to your doctor about a backup plan for migraines the week if. A medrol pack can work winders but it's not without side effects like water retention, bloating, and acne....but might be a last resort.

@DenaC, It's nuts how different doctors can be! Mine warned me that might happen, so I would be prepared for it and not think I was going crazy.

I've figured out I sometimes get migraines from not eating. Long day at work, forget to eat lunch, etc. I made sure to eat throughout the day on my wedding day even though it was hectic.

Stressing about the same thing. I get hemiplegic migraines that cause me to go blind for a couple minutes-hours, my speech is impaired, and my hands, arms, and face go numb and the absolute worst day to get one would be our wedding day. I haven't found anything that helps. FH usually takes me to the dr and they put me to sleep until it's over. Migraines are so tricky. I've noticed that when I start to feel it coming on if I take excedrin or Advil and drink an entire bottle of water it dulls it. Just try to stay hydrated and get plenty of sleep the night before.

@Zaz it sounds like you're describing hemiplegic but there's so many forms it's hard to say!
