I get them they're terrible! I take flexeril at night to prevent them. Excedrin migraine helps when I get one. Coke, greasy pizza, goodys powder, and a cold nap is the best remedy that I've found. Hope you feel better!!

I'm on the nortriptalin as a preventive.

For a PRN, I have been on Fioricet for a few years. The generic on it is butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine.

I'm also on Topamax but I found it did nothing for the migraines- it does however prevent seizures :-)

Yes!!! I've had them for about a week now. I honestly think it's the seasonal change but it's horrific. I've taken Advil migraine and it's definitely helped

I use Imitrex as a last resort as well. Not because of price but because I get nasty side effects. It stops the migraine though. There is also a shot that is basically the same thing but works faster. I have had some migraines last for days and once it is on day 2 I know it isn't going away on it's own. Coffee and advil at the first sign is very effective, but sometimes I don't get it fast enough.

Try a low inflammatory diet. You don't have to go full force, but avoiding foods that can trigger an inflammatory response (sugar, wheat, soy, corn, nuts, eggs). Pick one or two and see if they go away and cycle one of them out (or in) if it works/doesn't work. Also, stay hydrated and make sure you're getting some type of physical activity in everyday. In my personal experience, I found that birth control pills (with estrogen) were causing my migraines around "that time of the month". They were horrible and lasted 5 days. Once I switched to a progesterone only birth control, my migraines completely went away. Hope this helps!

I don't get migraines often, but mine are triggered by barometric pressure. No avoiding that, and that means they also often come in waves over several days. I don't know if it's a coincidence but I started eating less wheat and taking a magnesium supplement and my migraines became less severe. I do take generic Imitrex ($5 9 pills), but it makes me feel like my skin is burning, so I avoid it.

Because I get a blinding aura, I am always worried it will happen while driving, but that's only happened once, thank goodness.

I have found by changing my diet my migraines have decreased significantly. No fried food, pizza or things of that nature.

I take imitrex and it only costs me $15 for 9 pills. $90 without insurance. Actually it's sumatriptan. Not sure if that's the generic version?

Can you find any trigger? Mine come around my period. I don't want to skip it for any month but I bet some different birth control would help. Lack of estrogen brings it on for me I guess.

My triggers are screwy up and down weather barometric pressure, and stress and hunger. I don't get them around my period. In fact that's the only time I'm usually fine.

PEPPERMINT OIL!! Literally has saved my life since i got pregnant. It honestly works better than any meds i took before baby. I have it in a roller and generously apply it to the back of my neck and temples if its really bad and within 10-15 mins it is gone.

I get them also but I can't take anything because I puke... I'm so scared I'm going to have one the day of but I purposely got a lot of stuff done a few weeks before the wedding so I can relax. My mom and FMIL both understand so they helped a lot when I told them this.

Yup stay hydrated and after my second major concussion, I have had headache for months and migraines constantly. Download th e blueblocker app for your phone and if you can, try acupuncture. I was super afraid but none of the medication would work and I haven't had much of a headache in a few days. Such a relief after months of agony. Hang in there!!

Migraines have been part of my life for so long that I'm always a little surprised when people say they've never had one - my body is conditioned to think it's "normal" to always have head pain, neck pain, aura, or difficulty speaking (I forget the actual term for it - the proper words are in my brain but come out of my mouth in the wrong order/wrong words).

What I've found over the course of my migraine journey is that it is a very personal condition. No two people ever have exactly the same triggers, reactions, or results to medications. For example, I've read a lot of PP use caffeine when one is starting; caffeine is a trigger for me. Some of my triggers are the same as others (barometric pressure is one - I'm more accurate than the Weather Channel to predict rain in the forecast! LOL), while others are completely different.

I recommend getting a good night's sleep as often as you can, staying hydrated, balance your diet and keeping a migraine journal. Jot down absolutely everything you eat, smell, and do every day, along with your migraine status, the weather, and your menstrual cycle. This - more than anything - will help you pin down triggers and spot patterns.

For what it's worth, I've dealt with migraine syndrome since I was a young child; I'm 35 now, so we'll say for at least 25 years. If there's a medication or treatment out there, I've probably tried it at some point. At the moment, I treat it with Fioricet as needed, and visit a pain specialist regularly for an injection into the ocipital nerve. I can usually get at least 6 months of semi-normal life out of it. It's hella expensive, but I'll keep doing it for as long the insurance will pay for it.

I'm a migraine sufferer. I take imitrex. Ask for the generic. It works just as good for me and it's so much cheaper.

I would go back to your neurologist asap. Migraines are tricky things and the triggers vary from person to person. The right birth control helped me some, as I was getting a lot of them around my period. And drinking a ton of water all the time.

I get them almost everyday. I also take Imitrex. Although I get the off brand and have insurance it's only 10 bucks. But I'm also worried about having one on my wedding day. I pretty much already know I will. It's just a matter of the medicine working for me that day or not.
