Midwest state brides - June Wedding Postpone?

Sarah, on April 11, 2020 at 7:54 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17
Hi all.

I live in Indiana, where the cases are not as high as NY or CA, for example. Currently we only have a stay at home order until April 20th. Our wedding is June 19th, 2020. We haven’t cancelled/postponed yet, but we do have a back up date for later in July.
Ladies from Midwestern states, what are your plans? When is your wedding?

I no longer live in the Midwest but my FH and I are from Chicago and Michigan. I can say that both IL and MI are on lock down and both states have had many cases. I would make a back up plan just in case the lock down gets extended or social distancing is extended.

My wedding is in September. I live in Wisconsin, we have a stay at home order till april 24th I think. We have 12 cases in my county. 7 of those cases are recovered. I have no plans to postpone. I know things could get worse but the peak is expected to happen on april 13th. Things will get better.

I'm in Missouri and have no plans to postpone our July 11th wedding. Our state is under a stay at home order until April 24th but we know that could change. If it's just us, immediate family, officiant, and photographer then that's what it will have to be. I'm trying to stay hopeful we will still get to have the wedding we're planning!

My wedding is June 5th and I haven't canceled or postponed anything. Our vendors have been very kind and are working with us incase we need to postpone. We will ride it out until we hear back after the end of april. I'm not hopeful I can have my wedding on June 5th. I also work in healthcare and seeing how things are working out there, doesnt look good. I hope I'm wrong! I also plan to still get married on June 5th and then have my big wedding after.

I’m a Minnesota bride with a June 6th date. Our stay at home order ends May 4th. That’s the day we’re deciding, unless it gets extended.

Hello fellow Hoosier! I read that we’re supposed to hit our peak around April 19th, so I’m expecting the stay at home order will be extended through May, but hopefully not June. Where are you? Indy’s been hit hard but outside of Marion County it’s not too bad. But if you’re in one of the harder hit counties it may take longer for things to get back to normal.

I’m actually in Lake County (so closer to IL/Chicagoland)...and we’re just behind Marion on cases. As of today I think we’re at about 700. I think I’m still gonna wait it out and see what the governor says after the 20th for sure. Crossing my fingers that come May 4th we don’t have to decide to postpone!!

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! I’m in Monroe County and it’s not too bad here yet, so I’m hopeful the executive order will be effective at reducing cases here. My wedding isn’t until October so I’m hoping we’ll be back to normal and that we don’t see a second wave in the fall, but it’s hard to say.

I'm in Milwaukee and our date is July 25th. We haven't postponed yet, and I remain somewhat hopeful that we can continue as planned (this hopefulness has decreased over the past month). I just don't know what to do. We are going to wait until the beginning of May to see what happens with stay at home orders and how things look, although my guess is that it won't be clear what to do.

I’m in Ohio. Stay at home order until 5/1 with peak projected around 4/25. Wedding is planned for June 20. We are taking it day by day. I think it will end up being OK, but we have a backup date of August 7 (would have a small ceremony on 6/20 as well).

Unfortunately, the states that don't have a lot of cases now are the ones where the lockdown is likely to last the longest. In New York, for example, a) a lot of people have had it and are already immune, and b) people are taking stay at home orders seriously. In states that haven't had a lot of cases yet, it can easily spread like wildfire because no one is immune, and people aren't taking stay at home orders as seriously as they should.

I say this as someone who lives in a county in Maryland that didn't have a lot of cases until recently. All of a sudden, more people are dying every day.

Indiana has about 6,000 cases as of right now, and our governor has stated it’s looking like social distancing is working. We have been on lockdown since March 23rd, and will be until at least April 20th. That’s kind of what’s going on right now...in my county it seems as though people are taking it pretty seriously.

I'm in Green Bay and have a similar game plan. Our wedding is July 18, 2020 and I'm waiting to hear if they extend the stay at home order. If all I have to cancel is the shower then fine. If it runs till July then we'll get married with officiant, photographer and immediate family outside somewhere. Reception would be later, but I haven't even contacted the reception vendor yet. Fingers crossed!!

Missouri bride here as well! Wedding is planned for May 30th and as of right now am not postponing the celebration. We do have a backup date set with our major vendors - venue, photographer, cake, flowers, etc. for August if we are unable to have the celebration in May. Our bach party will probably end up being cancelled completely (or postponed?) and the shower will be postponed to later in the summer.
