Mid- September Wedding

Morgan, on June 4, 2015 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hello! I am thinking about having my our wedding in mid September (around the 17th, 2016) in Iowa (outdoors), and I cant seem to figure out if at that point in time the trees and everything will be changing or if everything will still look green and summery?? Please Help!! I've always wanted a fall wedding, but i also don't want it to be too cold for all of the guests since it will be outdoors without much shelter from the elements...

I got married in PA on the 27th. The leaves hadn't started changing at all and it was in the 80s.

I don't know about Iowa though.

Idk about Iowa, but I know in New England the leaves haven't really changed until mid October-ish. In mid September it will still be pretty green. This past year the week before our wedding date was 90 degrees, and the week of our wedding date was rainy and like 60. Hopefully Iowa is more consistent!

I'm in CT. Last year, on my wedding date, the trees had already started to change. This year, prime leaf peeping in ME and NH will be right around my date, so again, it will just be starting to change.

Google average fall foliage peaks for your area. Mid September may be a bit too soon to have the leaves turning. Our wedding is on the peak foliage weekend for our area.

I'm not sure where in Iowa you are but I'm in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area and I don't think the leaves change quite that earlier. It's usually pretty hot through September, I would say you might do better in October.

Thanks all! I may need to plan for October then... Id just hate for it to be too cold, but I know my fiance would appreciate it since he gets hot easily and he will be in his marine dress blues. I think ill take tally's on the weather in September this year and figure out when the foliage starts changing. Thanks for the help!
