MID-DAY WEDDING... THOUGHTS?

edecker, on November 29, 2017 at 11:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Traditionally weddings are held from the late afternoon to evening, BUT has anyone ever hosted/attended a brunch/late lunch/early afternoon wedding? Afternoon light keeps things brighter and allows for more outdoor fun and I am considering possibly going against the norm and hosting mid-day. Thoughts? Opinions? Advice?

(I once read it is good luck to be married around noon where both the clock hands point to heaven, anyone ever heard this before?)

I grew up going to wedding masses on Saturday mornings, followed by breakfast and then a dinner/dancing reception in the evening.

It's a nice thought, but by no means original. A wedding can be held almost any time of the day as long as you serve a meal if the receptions spans a normal meal time.

I've never heard that evening weddings are 'the norm; we do loads of weddings during the day. Most of our venues have an 11:30 start and a 6:30 start; there are others that do one a day at 3:30 or 4:00. The food at the early ones is not significantly different than the later ones.

99% of the weddings I've attended are in a church and took place anywhere from 11:00 - 2:00. Not unusual in my book.

We had our venue from 2:00 until 6:00 -- ceremony, buffet, dancing. The venue had glass walls looking out into a garden.

I've had several couples wanting to get married as the 'minute' hand is going up, instead of down.

My coworker is doing a brunch wedding. From what she has told me, it sounds nice and elegant.

Ours was 2pm-9pm, it was still a ton of fun, people danced like crazy, and we are still getting comments about our wedding Smiley smile

I thought about a mid day wedding but the hours for those seem so short at most venues in chicago. 4 1/2 hours mostly, then we have to consider what we will do for the evening....so we'll probably stick with evening

I like your thought of both clock hands pointing to heaven! But to answer your question, our ceremony was at 11:00, the whole thing was done by 3pm. It was great. Tip: You will not have as much time for photography as a later start time, and I had a heck of a time finding a salon that opened at 8am. I was successful though!!

My brother's wedding was on a Saturday at 1:00 and over by 6:30. It was nice because it wasn't late when we were driving home and we were able to go home and have a regular night. Something you may want to consider though is photography, especially if you want outdoor photos. Midday sun (if it is sunny) is harsh and can make photos look washed out. If you are hoping for outdoor photos I would scout your location for shady areas.

We thought about doing this, but after talking to my best friend we decided a Saturday evening wedding was best for us and our guests.

We all have kids, so it's easier for us to get a sitter for a Saturday evening than midday and trying to pick up the kids from school and extracurricular activities.

We are doing a small simple wedding. We will start at 11:30 am. After the ceremony, we will eat lunch around 12 to 12:30. Venue is booked until 4:30 pm. We don't expect a lot if dancing, but will have background music playing. Just plan to mingle with our families and enjoy each other's company.
