Italian Menu:

Comes with a salad, assorted dinner rolls, a vegetable selection of our choice, a protein entree and an entree without protein. Some of the protein entrees include chicken parmesan and fettuccini alfredo with roasted chicken, and some of the non-protein entrees include cheese-stuffed cannelloni, penne pasta primavera, and vegetarian lasagna. We will pick one from each category, and special meals can also be made for vegans, gluten allergies, etc.

Mexican Menu:

Comes with corn/flour tortillas, tortilla chips, guacamole, two types of salsa, cheese, sour cream, lettuce and onions, with a choice of two entrees and two sides. The two entrees we are leaning toward are

Mexican is so good with drinks. I vote Mexican : ) although I love Italian too. Italian is typical of a wedding.. if you want something different go the Mexican route.

A little shocked that mexican food is not considered "upscale" or "fancy" What do you think they serve at Mexican weddings? People really should be careful with their words. I thinks saying that maybe many guests would prefer the Italian meal as it may be more familiar to them is ok, but to say because it is more "upscale"? If you are talking about presentation, then that's a matter of no creativity... Thumbs down to this thread.

Sorry OP, I think you had a good question just disappointed on word choices in the responses.

Italian! With Mexican, I'd fear my guests would have indigestion or worse!

I love me some Mexican, don't get me wrong, but I think the Italian is a better choice. Most are picky about what they order from Mexican and I feel the two options may not be liked as much as the Italian options.

Do both and let your guests choose their preference on the RSVP cards

I would prefer Mexican. A lot of Italian doesn't agree with me (Alfredo) or makes me feel SUPER full, so I'd probably be miserable, or wouldn't eat a lot.

I could literally eat tacos for every meal and they're super customizable!

I would go with mexican. It's a personal favorite plus I have also never had it at a wedding so this would definitely stick out (in a delicious way) to me.

H says Italian. He will eat chicken parm all day every day but agreed mexican would would be very cool to see at a wedding.

I would say Italian is a crowd pleaser.. we were wanting different and thought about food trucks but didn't want to deal with a rain plan or worry about older guests going out to get there food and having to make there way back inside with full hands..

So Mexican was high on my list as well.. but my gram (basically my mom) had a fit (she hates spicy .. and by spicy I mean ketchup) and the more I thought about it .. my primarily "up north" Minnesota Norwegian/Scandinavian family would probably not enjoy Mexican like our friends would ... so we are opting for fairly traditional with a little twist

    brisket

blackened chicken with a mango salsa

Potato bar with all the fixings

    (Sweet potato and garlic mashed)

    Baked mac and cheese

    Mixed veggies

    Rolls

    Plated salad

I think it really depends on the vibe you are going for.

Italian is fancier (@Mags, stay with me, I'll explain) and I think more of a general crowd pleaser. I would use this option if you are going for a more formal, elegant feel to your day.

Mexican is more fun and says happy to me! (@Mags) when I think of Mexican weddings I think of dancing, fun, laughter, and people who know how to have a really good time. I don't think of them as 'upscale' because to me that says stiff/more formal and I would never think of a Mexican wedding that way. (I think an upscale wedding would be more elegant but a Mexican wedding would be more carefree and funnn!)

So I think you should base your choice on the vibe you want. Also think about things pp have said like that Mexican might upset stomachs do do you have the bathrooms for it just in case. Italian is generally crowd pleasing but not nearly as popular (especially with younger generations I feel). There is also less variety.

Good luck and I know it's going to be yummy and awesome for your day either way!

I can't stand Mexican. Also many people in my family can't eat Mexican because it makes them sick. So I would choose Italian. Also Italian is a little bit fancier in my opinion.

Sigh. I'm slightly offended at "Italian is classier than Mexican"......

    ::side eye::

Mexican can be done in a way that's more formal. It's not just tacos and fajitas. But whatevs.

I have no opinion. Personally, unless it's authentic, both options are meh.

Many places feel they can do Italian and it ends up being super boring and lacking flavor.

    Good luck

ETA: @mags i 100% agree with you. Im reading these responses like wow people.

@mags and @JPCD, you're right, and I am sorry. I realize I used that word in one of my replies. I agree it was not a good word choice, so I went back and edited it to what better reflected what I meant and the feedback I received. At most weddings I have been to in my area, they either serve a variation of Italian or a meat option like chicken or beef or fish, so I often associate those meal choices with weddings, and weddings make me think fancy (though I know that is not always the case). But you're right, Mexican food is not any less formal or fancy just because it is less seen at weddings I have been to. I think what I meant was Italian is more "traditional" or featured at the weddings I have been to, so I edited my post to reflect that. I am sorry if any of my wording offended you. I love both types of food myself, and don't believe either one will detract from the atmosphere.
