Metal building ugly wall reception

Kim, on February 27, 2018 at 10:24 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12
Hello all! So I am getting married at my moms house and have the reception in her HUGE metal building. We are needing to cover the walls and I am feeling overwhelmed because I don’t know the best way to cover them! I’d love any and all ideas on how to hang fabric without it looking like it’s just a sheet hanging up!

It would help if you post a pic. Sometimes you just call more attention to something by trying to hide it.

Could you just go for a more industrial vibe?

This is an example not the actual building. The building we are using has a bunch of shelves.

I wouldn't cover anything. It would be like having a wedding in an aircraft hangar. Cool.

People pay big money to rent industrial venues.

I don't think it's ugly at all. I agree- trying to cover it up will attract more attention to it. Focus on other decoration- centerpieces, head table, flowers around the venue, etc. If you can, use the shelves to your advantage too, maybe put pictures of you and your FH?

If she has shelves with stuff on it, she’ll probably want to cover it. I don’t know that I have any great ideas...maybe constructing some frames to stretch fabric on? I think draping might be challenging but I don’t have experience with it. I’d see if there are options near you to rent screens or draping.

She could always just take the stuff off the shelves. Covering all the walls in a building that size would cost a fortune.

Metal building ugly wall reception 4NOT my picture, but this looks like they used rods somehow? I know you didn't want the sheet hanging up look, but twinkle lights could make a more romantic feel, especially with lower lighting? I actually have something like this behind our bed.

If you want to add softness to the metal look, you could add strings of lights hanging down, hanging garlands of greenery or flowers, or either of those things over fabric that covers the wall. You might also consider emptying the shelves (or not emptying them depending what’s on them) and adding candles and/or small vases of flowers.
