'Merriment to follow.' Invitation wording

Venusian, on May 8, 2015 at 5:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Working on my invitations right now. Would it be ok to have "Merriment to follow." instead of "Reception to follow."?

Some background on my wedding: Reception will be at the same location as the ceremony (a large house on park grounds). We're probably having BBQ and roasting marshmallows for smores later that evening.

Reception. I wouldn't have any idea what "merriment" was.

I like merriment, but I'm kind of a renaissance fest nerd, so...

Most people would be confused by Merriment and want to know if the reception was after and if dinner is involved.

Don't you only put reception to follow if it is at a different location?

Eta: I'm wrong, reception to follow is for if it's at the same location. The reception information card is for if it is at a different location than the ceremony.

I just like the word merriment.

Maybe "Dinner and merriment to follow." or something similar?

I like merriment but I can definitely see how there might be confusion about what it meant and that it sounds "too cute". Maybe "dinner and merriment to follow" if you want to use that word? Or "dinner and celebrations to follow"? I was thinking of having "dinner and merriment to follow" on our invites but after reading ppls thoughts might reconsider...

We put 'dinner & merriment to follow' and everyone loved it. We got a lot of comments about it...but we are older and so is most of our crowd. But come to think of it, my daughter's 20-something friends loved it too so I guess it's not an age thing. If that wording represents you and your FH, use it. If it sounds corny to either of you, choose something more traditional

We said "Food and fun to follow!" and we are doing a similar backyard style. :-)

My favorite design on Minted says "dinner and merriment to follow" in the sample and I thought it was a fun choice of words.
