Menu Ideas for June Wedding

Grace, on January 11, 2022 at 8:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Hey everyone!

My fiancé and I are having an outdoor wedding in early June. My chef friend is catering the wedding and we just need to come up with a menu plan. I want to incorporate as many local ingredients as possible. I am also a pepper farmer and so anything using my peppers would be a bonus. Since we have almost limitless options, I am having a hard time coming up with ideas and would love some help. What menu items would you suggest?

This may not be the answer you were after but quite honestly I think you're much better off speaking to your friend about this than asking us as your friend will have far more superior knowledge than us as to what is in season and can be sourced locally as well as what they can make to highlight your peppers. I think you'll also get much better food by having your friend cook dishes they know and are incredible at rather than working off of a whole bunch of suggestions from us Smiley smile

Well, I don't know where you are and what is local to you. What kind of peppers? What kind of cultural cuisine are you familiar with? Are you in the U.S.? I'm in Texas and jalapeno peppers are the first peppers I think of. Different types of salsa would be a great way to showcase peppers, like a salsa bar for tacos.

Thank you for the suggestion 😊 My friend is the one who asked me to come up with a general menu and then he’ll give ideas to make it even more creative. He works at a restaurant where the menu changes frequently to match what is locally available and does multiple pop ups and competitions so he is used to (and loves) making various kinds of dishes and trying new things. I grow more than peppers and sell at farmers markets so I am familiar with what is in season. I really am just looking for suggestions of what people have loved at weddings or are using at their own so I have some clue of where to start. Even better if you’ve seen good wedding dishes with peppers. I should have made that more clear in the original post. 😅

Candace, I’m located in NC - growing zone 7. I have hoophouses so can have some produce ready earlier, especially if I have the menu planned soon. Local here in June would include peppers, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, blueberries, blackberries, lots of lettuce and greens, radishes, turnips, eggplant, etc. June is a great time of year because summer crops are coming in but most winter crops can still be grown. I love the idea of a salsa bar, thank you! As for peppers, I grow over sixty varieties but the really hot ones won’t be ready in June. So anaheims, poblanos, bananas, jalapeños, serranos, shishitos, padróns, sweet Italian peppers, biquinhos, etc. Hopefully some buena mulata and other cayenne level heat peppers. I may try to baby some chocolate habaneros so they’re ready because they are my favorite. I love all food but especially Latin American and Asian cuisine. 😊
