Menu help!

Thea, on September 4, 2019 at 5:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 21

CONTEXT: the wedding is in 10 days, my FW and I have paid for the entire thing ourselves (except for a tiny bit of help from a parent just recently as a gift), and we are both recent college grads. I have done 90% of the planning myself. The stress is real!

I am looking for reassurance that I am on the right track. We did a tasting, which went just fine. It is just that my FW and I both have very picky tastes and so we picked food that we like (and tried to add in what I think other people like). Now I am panicking, and wondering if people are going to starve at the wedding because I have awful taste in food.

Here's the buffet menu:

Hors d'ouervres: loaded potato skins, antipasto skewer, fresh fruit display table (available during dinner as well), cheese skewer

Entrees: roast beef au jus, italian herb baked chicken

Sides: pasta salad, red skin potato salad, kaiser rolls, mostaccioli

Can anyone provide reassurance or advice before I go and email the caterer with changes that we probably (definitely) cannot afford? Is this a reasonable menu?

Thank you!

Could you switch either the pasta salad or potato salad out for a veggie or green salad? It just seems like a lot of starch in my opinion.

Your apps and entrees sound great. I agree with PP that maybe you could add or substitute a vegetable instead of just two starches.

Yep, need a vegetable. Do you have any vegetarians or vegans in attendance? Is there a separate option for them?

I don’t think the pasta salad or potato salad really goes with roast beef au jus. It’s kind of a confusing menu I guess? It all sounds like tasty things I’m sure your guests would like but it doesn’t feel like a cohesive menu. Could you sub one of the salads without having to pay much more?

I think the overall menu looks great. If you could swap out a starch side for a veggie or salad, great. If not, people will be fine.

It doesn't matter if it is cohesive in my opinion. You have a good variety.

    Thanks for the reply...

Yes, one vegetarian. We might add a veggie blend to replace one of the pastas.

I think it looks delicious!! I'd be happy with a menu like that. The only thing I might add is some kind of green salad.

It does sound good ! I agree a different veggie option would be better since it makes it lighter

As a carb lover this is all great but switching to a veggie is also a great idea! 😊

I agree with PPs. You definitely a salad or a green veggie in there somewhere. I also think maybe swap out the pasta salad or potato salad for mashed potatoes as that would go better with the roast beef and the chicken and help your menu be more cohesive.

I think the meal sounds totally fine. The only thing I would change is adding a salad or a veggie side rather than potato & pasta salad & mostaccioli, unless the pasta salad has a lot of veggies.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that menu. Seems pretty similar to most weddings I’ve been to. You’ve got apps, beef and chicken, and sides.

I agree with the majority here. The entrees and apps sound great, good variety doing chicken and beef. Some sort of greens would be nice. Could be either salad or vegetables....BUT that wont make or break your meal.

I think it is lovely of you to consider the tastes of your guests. If the couple getting married has very picky/specific tastes, I would say definitely cater the menu to them – it IS your wedding after all!! That being said, looking over your menu I don’t see anything on there that is super strange that the general public wouldn’t like. I think everyone will be able to find lots of things they enjoy eating there. Stop stressing, don’t change the menu! Enjoy your wedding and all the food there!

P.s. plus you're having a buffet, they can always get more of what they DO want if they don't like everything. It is replenished!
