Memorials for people passed... ideas?

Katie, on January 20, 2013 at 10:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

Hello brides, I have a few people I need to do memorials for at the wedding (including my FH mother), so it needs to be appropriate, as in it properly remembers her without throwing it in peoples faces. Originally I thought candle memorials, but candles dont really go with my wedding. Its a day lake wedding, so everything will be bright and candles dont make sense. My theme is trees and the feel of my wedding is natural and organic.

Any ideas? What have you done to honor those passed?

I saw something that i liked--family trees with pictures of each person that passed. I also saw a couple large picture frames with each person's photo.

For my dad I'm putting his picture and fireman hat in a chair doing the ceremony. I'm also having a patch of one of his shirts sewn into my dress in the shape of a heart. I've also thought of doing something like this candle.

For my dad I getting a candle that you can get words put on along with their name and I'll be having his picture both at the church in the seat he would have sat in and also on a table at the reception

    And same for FH Mom

We are having a memory table with pictures of our loved ones, and a sign that says "We know you would be here today, if heaven wasn't so far away."

At rodeos and other events they have around here, there is often a saddled, riderless horse that is brought through. For anyone with outdoor weddings (and if its appropriate to your family), you could have the horse tied or in a large corral nearby.

They have the unity sand that would work for a memorial instead of the candle. We're having a small table along side the ceremony that will have our daughter's urn bear on it with her own little flower girl basket (MOH made a little dress to go on the bear as well) I have a locket that will go onto my bouquet with my LO's picture in it and we may do a small prayer for her as well.

I got my husband a lapel pin with his dads picture in it and a nice quote from a poem. He wore that so that his dad could be by his side. It's also been a really nice keepsake that he has from our wedding.

    I got it from etsy,

she does bouquet pins as well and some other really sweet memorial things.

    hope this is helpful1

Katie L. There are several different things that you can do. I wanted to do the candle thing, but I think we agreed on this since most of their pictures are already in frames!

We are having an outside wedding and will be making fans. Something similar to wedding programs. But instead, on one side of the fan it will have a memorial picture and on the other information about them.

The reserved chair and "if heaven wasn't so far away" sayings are gorgeous. I lost my dad unexpectedly almost three years ago. I had ALWAYS dreamed of hearing him speak at my wedding and dancing with him at the reception. Breaks my heart to think it won't happen. But I"m going to ask my twin brother to walk me down the aisle and I think I will definitely reserve a seat for my dad in the front row. Thanks for the ideas. So touching.

Really cool ideas. We're going to put our parents/grandparents in a standing collage frame set up on a table with a small flower arrangement and candlelight. I really like the heaven saying. Maybe I'll do that too.
