May Venue cancelled Again.

Michelle, on March 19, 2021 at 3:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Hello! So I've been in a bit of a pickle. I had all my vendors booked and venue since before the pandemic started and I postponed my original wedding date from October 2, 2020 to May 23, 2021. Now my venue is saying they won't be able to host at all in May. My FH and I fell in love with the venue and are super bummed.

I am torn to postpone it again and possibly lose some of my vendors ( and deposit money) or keep all my original vendors and just look for another venue for the May date? I appreciate any feedback =)

Run far away and find another venue. Take a look at eventective.com or peerspace. Also try the parks department. If you explain the situation, you may be able to keep the vendors.

Its really up to you, it honestly sounds easier to keep your vendors and try to find something for May but it might be a bit of a crunch since its only 2 months away - my experience sunday's don't typically fill up as quick as saturday's (at least what most venues told me when I was looking around). The other thing to consider that some venues might have a list of approved vendors who they work with only - but guess thats a bridge to cross if you come to it.

    good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about this! As far as your question about whether to postpone, I think this totally depends on what you're looking for. Are you OK with hosting your wedding with the current COVID restrictions in place? If so, are you OK with finding a new venue? Or did you have your heart set on your current venue? If not OK with restrictions, I would postpone regardless of whether you find a new venue or keep your current one. Will your vendors let you postpone at no extra cost? I would check with them first, and put together a list of 4-5 dates that you could move your date to. Check if there are any of those dates that all vendors plus your venue are all available. If you would have to pay too much to move your date, I would request a full refund from your venue (since they cancelled on you) and search for a new venue. But the first step I would take is gather information from both your venue and vendors that will help you and your fiance make an informed decision.

I would totally keep my vendors and date and move it to another venue. I feel like prolonging a wedding would make me lose excitement and I would just wanna get it over with lol.

Aww man! That sucks! Did your venue say why they can't host the wedding? Since they can't host, I would ask them if they have any venue recommendations since it is such short notice and they are the ones canceling. It doesn't hurt to ask.

It's due to California restrictions. Since the area is still in the red tier and technically they can only host with a party of 3 or less households. Thanks for your feedback!

Your first sentence literally made me LOL. This venue has actually been the biggest headache from all this planning. Unfortunately I looked at peerspace for my location and they don't have anything. But I will check eventactive. Thank you so much! =)

Wow, it’s just amazing to me how states are so different. My state just opened to 100% capacity and though we’re still glad we cut our guest list and are keeping it cut , we’re excited to be able to finally have or wedding in June. I’d look for another venue. Rebooking vendors will be so hard as so many are trying to reschedule from last year..

You totally hit it on the nail. I am definitely less excited and more annoyed if anything else. In August this is going to be 3 years since we got engaged so we have prolonged it long enough. Thank you Biaanai =)

It is crazy how states operate differently. My location was in Lake Tahoe which is the border between California and Nevada. The california side is the really strict one where my venue cancelled on us where as Nevada is open and hosting weddings no problem. I am looking into the Nevada side as we speak. Good luck on your June wedding and so happy you have the green light for it! =)

    Hi Michelle,

I'm a Nevada bride (Reno area) and find it really strange a CA Lake Tahoe venue is cancelling so soon. With all of the changes and moving parts I would think the venue might reconsider as it gets closer. But on the flip side I totally understand needing the piece of mind for yourself. I know there are a lot of Reno based vendors who also work in South Lake Tahoe, so the assumption would be that South Lake Tahoe Vendors could/would do the same.

Good luck with your search. Happy to help if you have any questions about Nevada venue thoughts.

I just read on another post that an announcement will be made April 1st regarding CA wedding receptions/restrictions, so hopefully at that time, there will be a lot more leniency then there has been in our state this past year (after all, schools, sports, amusement parks, etc. are opening back up this next month so why not receptions?!). Best of luck to you!

You may not have to lose all your vendors.

We are currently moving our date for a second time (going to be on our third date). Every time we have needed to change dates, I have used Doodle to make a poll to see which dates all our vendors have available. Our venue (also our caterer) is our priority, so we see what dates they have available, add them to the poll, and then have all of our other vendors fill out their availability. Its quick and easy and then I have a visual reference of which dates work for everyone, and who we might need to replace if we picked any given date.

We moved our date from May 2020 to June 2021 and now are looking at later in 2021. It is possible our existing June date could work if vaccines keep ramping up but I think we likely won't know for sure until the final hour. We'll need to make a decision soon because there is only one other date that works for everyone right now.

Hello! This is my first time posting on this website, but I was in a situation similar to you. My original wedding day was May 30, 2020. We eloped on May 22, 2020. Moved all of our vendors and church ceremony to May 22,2021. I reached out to our venue in January and I was told they did not anticipate being open in May, I frantically looked for a new venue nearby and did not have any luck. We did not want to go through the stress of having to postpone our wedding as we are looking forward to starting a family. Our first plan was to find a venue and keep all of our vendors. The second plan was to downsize and have a smaller wedding in our backyard. Luckily, we were able to find a small ranch by word of mouth and luck. It was incredibly stressful to look for venues. It was disappointing getting emails and responses saying they weren't available. We were not able to find a venue/winery/ranch specifically for weddings/events available on the day we wanted. It was just too close and everything was booked. We thought about having our ceremony on one day and then possibly having the reception on another day, but it was pretty stressful connecting with vendors who sometimes took days to respond. Not to mention one of our vendors went out of business and never told us. We live in the Northern California area where things are still very strict. I wish you the best of luck with your wedding!
