Mashed potini bar?

Robin, on February 20, 2015 at 6:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Anyone ever do a mashed potini bar? (mashed potatoes in a martini glass with a bunch of toppings)

If so, was it a hit or miss?

Thank you

Haven't been to a wedding with one personally but FSIL has and told me all about it and how neat it was.

Having a mashed potato bar, no martini glasses. I went to a wedding with one, and it was the best thing about the already delicious food. As soon as I saw my caterer offered one, I had to have the mashed potato bar.

They are amazing, but make sure the potatoes are in a chafing dish so they are served hot. No one wants cold mashed potatoes!

@Celia so what goes good with this? My venue is having a price increase so I need to tell them WHAT we want by next weekend (but not quantities). We are doing a cocktail party... 1/2-2/3 round tables, the rest high tops. Various passed apps all day. Raw bar, the usual cheese, crackers, fruit. We can do carved meat (so gross in my opinion but people eat it!), pasta stations or whatever... I'm wondering if just adding potatoes to an all apps/open bar afternoon event would work OR if we should add more stuff. Thank you!

You put the potatoes in the martini glass and add toppings... Bacon, scallions etc. No idea why they use a martini glass... Maybe to look "fancy"...

It's because martini glasses control the portion sizes. People aren't meant to fill up on them just enjoy for a snack. The shape of the glass also allows for all the toppings to be piled on without over flowing

I attended a wedding set up much like yours and they had a mashed potato bar as a selection. It was my favorite, and if we didn't have the grits bar at our wedding, we'd have selected mashed potatoes.
