Marriage books/workbooks

Since we are eloping, we don't have time for traditional premarital counseling. In place we are looking at books or more specifically work books.

Has anyone else done this? What did you use?

We are doing counseling. We are also continuing it after the wedding. It might be a good option for you to consider taking up counseling after the wedding. There's still a couple of weeks left before your wedding. You could potentially see if someone can squeeze you in so you can touch on the top concerns, typically finances, intimacy, and common goals.

If you really can't get in to see someone, or don't want to book someone for soon after the ceremony, definitely check out some worksheets. Our counselor gave us a bunch of stuff when we were starting out to get to know each other. Look for things with comparison and chart exercises, like one form we had went over:

How much physical intimacy I was interested in
How much physical intimacy I was receiving, and all the types (from kisses and hugs or gentle touches to more than that)
How much physical intimacy I desired
How much physical intimacy I thought my partner desired
    What turned my partner on
    What turned me on

    Etc.

This was just one category from a portion of lengthy form, and we both filled it out and then went over our answers together with the counselor so she could sort of mediate. We did this with intimacy, finances, etc. The best part about counseling is that they are able to ask questions in different ways than you can with your partner, so they get you to open up and expunge a little more detail than you would usually. And they're there to translate if you don't fully understand an answer, or get where your partner is coming from.
