Map Inserts for Invitations

dragonfly726, on July 8, 2010 at 12:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

All along, we were planning on having our ceremony and reception at the same place, now it turns out we're not. While I am completely happy with both venues, now I need to come up with a map insert for my invitations with directions from the ceremony to the reception. Have any of you done this? Can I see some examples?

Thanks Smiley smile

Www.weddingmapper.com has a good tutorial and all that. It's a task that I'm having FH do since he's more of a perfectionist and better at details than I am. He'll do a great job... me, I struggled with it for 3 hours, hated my work and deleted it. He'll be able to sit there and do it and not get frustrated.

Hi, I design map inserts for wedding invitations! I can coordinate with your invitation colors. You can see my most recent example here: http://freshpaperstudios.com/custom-wedding-maps/

Feel free to email me at *****@*****************.*** if you'd like more information.

You can also use Google maps if you can save the map as an image (pdf). You just have to leave the copyright info on the map.

My FH did ours in Illustrator. We took a screenshot of the Google Maps and then drew the lines over the top and deleted the Google Maps part to make it look nicer.

Those look great Danielle! Yes the Google maps are low res, so they print kinda rough, but they usually serve the purpose. Some people also opt for written directions, but I think the maps are easier for guests to comprehend more quickly.

I also make maps, though I use professional ESRI ArcGIS software (both online and desktop, depending on detail). My suggestion would be to take a screenshot of a detailed map including any layers you want to display (i.e. hillshade, topography, imagery, roads, ferry routes, flight routes, points of interest, etc) and then trace it using powerpoint. Powerpoint has more powerful tools than Word, and is less complicated than illustrator. Smiley smile
