Manzanita Centerpiece Opinions...

EdieKristen, on July 31, 2012 at 10:17 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

Hi everyone! Just thought I would get some of your expert bride opinions on my centerpieces Smiley smile

I ordered a few manzanita branches to test out a few ideas... I had originally planned on putting them in a vase with LED lights under the green and clear glass beads, but when I tried it the vases kept tipping over. So I ended up buying some green pots and using plaster of paris to cement the branch in place, and then covering the plaster with the beads and I love it! I might choose a different item to cover the plaster, like a mossy material or some fake flowers but haven't decided yet.

Anyway, I'm also making purple crepe paper flowers and adding at least 5 to each tree, and hanging crystal garlands on the branches to make them a little fancier looking.

But here is where I am unsure.... Should I drape one long strand around the branches or hang a few shorter strands on various branches ... *cont*

Here are the pics, it wouldn't let me put them in the original post.....

If I hang the individual strands, they will be glued by their first bead so they're not like folded over the branch like that, and I will probably put a flower on top of each strand....

I think I like the hanging strands better... where would you put the flowers?

I like the ones hanging down versus the draping. Well done with the pots?

Could you maybe spray paint them silver or gold and maybe make a fancier vase? but otherwise I think they will make great ceterpieces!

and I like te second picture better, but if you like both you can always alternate

I personally like the second look a little better...but I would put them onto a hook or glue the strand individually on the branches as to not have a double strand (if that makes sense) ... similar to how they hang in the below pictures.

If you want to do something like in your first picture, I'd recommend draping the beads a bit more.

I'm going to just randomly place them on the branches, like 5 or 6 per tree... But with the hanging strand I would do something like this so its like the beads are hanging from the flowers

Cydney- Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.. I didn't like the double strand but I didn't want to glue it to the branches until I was sure lol

We are doing manzanita centerpieces as well. I bought a bunch of crystals (fake) and beads and then attached earring hooks to the ones that didn't already have a hook or loop. I also bought some hanging candle holders to hang from the trees. Ours will be weighted down with river rocks and we'll also have 3 tealight candles on the table, around the base.

    Here's a pic of my mock-up

Mine is just in a vase of rocks, with blossoms glued to the branches. We're having branch lights in the center of each *not shown on picture* which will add some soft lighting along with the candles that will be on our tables.

Kayla- that's how I had originally planned on having ours, in a vase just like that! But for some reason it kept tipping over, even when I filled with with the beads/rocks. If I filled it all the way to the top it would stay upright but put a little weight on the branches and it could tip easily, and I was afraid of them falling over so I ended up going with the plaster in the pot. I am going to put a ribbon bow around each pot and probably add more to it to make it look better but right now I'm happy enough with it. We're on a seriously tight budget so I couldn't go as fancy as I wanted! :-/

We're also doing tealights on the table as well... I wanted to hang some from the branches but am afraid the crepe paper flowers would catch on fire with my luck, hahaha.

I am making these for my daughters wedding. I found a bride that had used branches from trees and bushes in her yard! Wel I tried it and it worked perfectly! It actually works out even better than the manzanite branches because you can add some smaller branches to fill in gaps and get a fuiller looking tree. Plus IT"S FREE!Smiley smile I used 10-12" vases which held the branches better because they are taller and filled the bottom with clear gems. By using the tall vase you don't need a lot of gems. I hung the crystals with "s" hooks which you can find cheap or even make yourself from silver wire. Then hung the candle holders but am using battery operated tealights so there is no chance of a fire. I made paper flower blossoms to glue randomly around the tree and then added some tiny little silver stars that shimmer when the light hits them. At the base will be 3 white hydrangaes and then tons of various sized candles filling the spaces between the flowers. Very easy & cheap!

Yeah, I'm thinking I am going to pick up some silk hydrangea flowers after work today, and maybe some "moss" and try out that and see how it looks. I like the beads, but the flowers would just stay in place and cover more, and I could hide the LED lights in the flowers like I wanted to, maybe...
