Making links, and bold and italic text.

2d Bride, on August 30, 2011 at 9:16 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 18

Because I got several requests for this on a post about something completely different, I thought I'd post instructions here.

Link:

<a href="http://www.google.com" target="_blank">Google</a>

= Google

Bold:

<b>Something in bold</b>

= Something in bold

Italics:

<i>Something in italics</i>

= Something in italics

Colored fonts:

<font color="red">Something in red</font>

= Something in red

Anyone want to make this a sticky?

@J&R S.: I am an attorney with a very large professional website. Thus, although I'm not a coder, I need to know this stuff.

Of course, my "motivation" for posting here was just challenged because I am a woman married to another woman. So you can judge for yourself whether I have devious motivations for posting tips on how to do HTML code. ;-)

Ah, I don't do anymore web design than I need to. I'm an attorney as well, but luckily, I am not in charge of keeping up my agency's website!

The real question is, how did you manage to post the coding without it, you know, being coded?

@Shana R.: That was indeed the most difficult part. It basically involved using ASCII code for the opening brackets, but not the closing ones. Using the ASCII code for both or neither resulted in the code being coded--it had to be just one.

@Angela D.: You've got me! It's all very well for me to be married to another woman, but this business of HTML coding in public is an obvious threat to Civilization As We Know It.

LOL! It would be one thing if it was civilization as we know it. But you've gone and capitalized it!!! We're all doomed!

Yes, you can do colors. However, I didn't want to put that in the main post, because a lot of colored fonts end up being hard to read.

Dang it! I wish I remembered the HTML coding I learned in my HS comp class 10 years ago...I would remember the codes for my colors then!

Oh, all right! LOL I can't make the codes show up as codes in a reply. But I've edited the main post to add colors.

Only certain colors are defined in HTML. Here is a list:

    http://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_names.asp

Coral is one of them, but peach is not. Perhaps you were thinking of PeachPuff?
