Makeup & False Eyelashes

Jackie, on July 29, 2012 at 8:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hi Everyone!

My bridesmaids and I are considering doing our own makeup, but we're interested in hiring someone to apply false lashes on the wedding day. Has anyone done this before? Do you think (or know of anyone specifically) we can hire a makeup artist to apply false lashes only on location? Thanks for your input!

Makeup artists I've looked at online have shown eyelash application prices on their websites, but if they charge a travel fee to go to your location, I don't know if it would be worth it.

Since you are considering doing your own makeup you still have almost 2 months maybe you could start trying to practice doing lashes and do them yourselves too.. i went through cosmetology school and when we did them they werent very hard to do [with the exception that it was on a mannequin] if diy isnt for you im sure a makeup artist or even your hair person could do them for you.. would just have to ask of course Smiley smile

I think if you look at some youtube videos you can learn to apply them yourselves fairly easily.

I think it might be difficult to find a make up artist willing to travel (and essentially give up a work day for a different wedding) to only apply lashes.

Could you and your girls buy some strips to practice applying on each other prior to your big day? Get a few sets. Trial and error. For what I have heard, they aren't that hard to apply.

I agree with Shannah and Tabatha. I would try to do it yourself. I would also apply them the night before.

If that doesn't work, then go to them. With what you will pay in travel costs, it would be much less expensive.

I'm doing my own makep and want false lashes. What I did was buy a few pairs and practice putting them on. The first time I did horrible but then I got pretty good at it. I figured out you sometimes need to trim the strips and then they fit right. I watched.a couple YouTube videos for tips.

Alright, so I don't know if my pictures will be good enough so Ill send you a link. The girl who did my hair also applied my lashes. My bms didnt do the fake lashes. She is NOT a professional but shes applied them to herself and in beauty school so I trusted her. I never did them in my trial so it was the day of the wedding and we just went for it! I think they came out great! Bought them at a discount beauty store (Sallys) and all of us did our own make up. I think its a waste of money to hire someone. Just me. We all looked great. I just had all my girls bring ALL their makeup with them and we just picked and choosed!

Thank you all so much for your advice! I think I'll purchase a few strips and try them myself before I go crazy trying to find a professional. Smiley smile Love the pictures!

Hey there! Here are a few tips!

-The singles will look more natural. When you apply them, have a friend do it for you. Close your eyes, and have them use tweezers with a slanted edge, put a dolup of dark glue onto a flat surface and let it sit there and get tacky for a bit. (about 60 seconds) Apply the lash starting in the outer corner one by one to where your lashes meet your lid. Apply about 5-6 flared lashes, long to short length as you work in. Keep your eyes closed for about 30 seconds as your done. Open your eye. It might be a bit sticky if you are new to applying and went to far down, but use the tweezers to help unstick if you need to.

-Stips are much easier to apply. Just make sure you let the glue get tacky BEFORE you attempt to apply them, about two minutes.

After application make sure to let them dry, then I apply a light coat of mascara to make them look more natural and blend them with the natural lash.

    Hope this helps!

You can definitely do this on your own. I used to wear false lashes all the time! It's a little tricky the first couple of times you do, but after a little practice, it gets much easier. Just practice a few times between now and your wedding and you'll be fine. My advice is to bring the tube of glue with you to the wedding, though, just in case. Just keep it in a clutch with your lip gloss and other emergency kit items. They shouldn't come off on their own but when I used to do my own, I would always bring my glue with me for peace of mind!

Makeup artists do charge to apply lashes but unless you plan to travel to them or just have lash extensions or individuals done (which last longer), it wouldn't be worth it. Most spas can also do lash extensions and individuals in which you'd get more bang for your buck but then in that case, you might as well pay for the whole makeup application or learn to apply strips yourself.
