Makeup and Hair--how much should this cost?

Rae, on February 27, 2012 at 10:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

I know a lot of you lovely ladies are DIYing your hair and makeup, but I would rather hire someone to do mine since I've NEVER had both done before (might as well, right?) I'm just curious as to how much this cost. I am trying to decide if the quote I got is outrageous or dead-on. $400 for on-location full bridal hair and makeup with primer, lashes, lipstick, loose powder and including hair and makeup trial. $160 for all bridesmaids (for both) or $80 for hair and $80 for makeup if they want one or the other. Thoughts on this?

It's going to depend on your location and what level of artist you are using. My quote was 425 for hair/makeup/ tattoo coverage on day of, my trial and MOH hair / make up. She was on the average side of pricing for my area.

How reasonable the price is depends a lot on where you live. Where I am, that is definitely on the higher end of things. Mine will be $250 total for on location air brush and hair, and that includes my trial.

Good point on the location. I think for our DW in Puerto Rico the San Juan-based peeps are a lot pricier than folks who are just as skilled on the other side of the island.

But good to know this price isn't COMPLETELY outrageous, FMC. It seems similar to yours.

Around here updo's go from $35-$75 depending on how intricate. Make-up is about $30. But that isn't on site.

There are a ton of places that do wedding and hair makeup now adays, I used to be part of a 2 woman team that did on site hair and makeup and would travel to different parts of colorado...

I would charge $45 per person to do hair and the makeup artist charged about the same... so about $90 per person.

Please keep in mind that these people are there to help you on your biggest day and if there are any last minute additions to people getting hair or makeup done that they need to know as soon as possible... also make sure that they are paid up front... the last thing that we want to do is have to track down the bride to get paid.

Hello, well seems a lil pricey, it's $400 for only you?? My bff is a hair stylest and she charges for long hair up dos and make up about $170-$180 (including air brush), usually when you get a package of a lot of girls, it should be less, about $80 for both hair and make up each, but if you really like her work, maybe it's worth it..Smiley smile

Just us 2--yeah, it was a little shocking.

I think this is one of the more worrisome aspects of planning this DW--I will have no clue what it looks like until the trial which can only take place on Thursday and the wedding will be on Saturday. EEKS!

I don't really find it shocking. But you see what I'm paying. I had quotes all over the place. One was just a make up artist and she had a base fee of 350. But she is a published artist and has worked on movies etc.

Planning a Destination Wedding can sometimes be more stressful than planning a local wedding. One option is to find a makeup artist / hair stylist near you who is able to travel with you. The cost may be the same but not always but I would definitely look into the option. This way, you'll be able to have a trial consultation in advance of your travels and may feel more comfortable with the stylist. I often travel on location for destination weddings. It's not unheard of and if you really find a local stylist who you connect with, it may be well worth it to alleviate any stress.

    Best wishes!

I'm only having mine done, but here is her price.

Bride Hair and airbrush M.A.C. Make-Up: $185.00 (includes lashes) and
putting in extensions if I supply them

Flower Girls: $35.00 each (ended up not scheduling that)

    Travel: $25.00

    Trial: $65 $25 for travel

I should add that every other place I contacted wanted enough for a $375 MINIMUM, so I was almost out of luck!

Rae, who are you using? Caridad is charging me $1025 for hair and makeup for the entire party.

    1 Bride

    4 Bridesmaid

    1 Junior Bridesmaid

    1 Flowergirl

    2 Mothers

My trail was $150 and that was deducted from my total.

At first I was going to bring my stylist from home but his air and hotel was less than her quote so FH said "NO" more like "HELL NO"! So I had a trail done on our last trip and I fell in love with her.

WOW if these prices were the quotes I got I would be skipping hair and makeup, and then I would be way more stressed lol!!

My hair and makeup are both onsite at the hotel, hair 50$ for day of and 20$ for trial, plus 65$ for highlights the week before hand. Then 50$ for each of the bridesmaids.

My makeup is $35 for the day of and $25 for the trial, and 35$ per bridesmaid and mother of the bride. Air brush or regular same price, I want regular though.
