Makeup and Hair--how much should this cost?

I know a lot of you lovely ladies are DIYing your hair and makeup, but I would rather hire someone to do mine since I've NEVER had both done before (might as well, right?) I'm just curious as to how much this cost. I am trying to decide if the quote I got is outrageous or dead-on. $400 for...

I know a lot of you lovely ladies are DIYing your hair and makeup, but I would rather hire someone to do mine since I've NEVER had both done before (might as well, right?) I'm just curious as to how much this cost. I am trying to decide if the quote I got is outrageous or dead-on. $400 for on-location full bridal hair and makeup with primer, lashes, lipstick, loose powder and including hair and makeup trial. $160 for all bridesmaids (for both) or $80 for hair and $80 for makeup if they want one or the other. Thoughts on this?

One thing to consider when comparing salon stylists with freelance stylists is that those working primarily in a salon may be wonderful for every day hair and makeup. They may however not be familiar with providing makeup and hair with respect to photography. You would be surprised how lighting can affect the outcome of a makeup application. Understanding photography and how the makeup and skin react to artificial lighting (flash, indoors, etc.) vs. how things change under natural lighting (sun, outdoors, etc.) can make a big difference in the outcome of your photos.

Some stylists are properly trained and experienced in these situtations, so it is always best to ask as many questions as you can. If you're going to spend a decent amount of money on a photographer, it is a good idea to get the best possible pictures you can by making sure your skin and hair appear flawless and look gorgeous in person and on film.

Rae not sure if you have a preference in cosmetics but she uses all MAC products to include their lashes. With were included in my quote.

Jennifer I think you price was lower because you are using an onsite salon or your location. Most artist add their travel cost into their pricing. I couldn't even get may hair done here in Atlanta for less than $50.

I'm having my hair done by the lady who always cuts my hair. I am going to do my makeup on my own (I am SUPER picky about the way it's done). My hair, at the least, will cost $65. We haven't done a trial run yet, so I don't know exactly what the cost will be.

Thanks everyone! Having some comparisons, even though this varies based on location, is really helpful.

And of course as always Super Bride Mek Mek is so helpful :-)

MekMek I am not having an onsite salon... I am having the 2 women come to the hotel in the bridal suite that the hotel has provided.

I was quoted about $400 for both, by those that are in the service of strictly bridal hair & makeup. The quotes I received from stylist that are willing to come to you were about $150-$200 for both. I'm in Atlanta.

My stylist was a good family friend, she had to open the salon on a sunday when they were closed! It was $18 for make up trial including lashes ($30 day of)...up do was $30 for a trial ($65 day of). That was a really great deal (considering normal hair trims are $45). Its good to have connections.
