Make your own wedding band?

Rye, on September 3, 2013 at 6:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

So my mom gave me my grandmother's engagement ring and ring enhancer. My FH already bought me my beautiful engagement ring. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of taking the diamonds out of a ring and putting them into a wedding band? My band is too thick to fit into the enhancer. I would see if we could just expand the ring enhancer but my band has engravings in it and I want them to be able to be seen. I want the sentiment behind the diamonds in my grandmother's engagement ring. Below is a picture of my engagement ring, the ring enhancer, and my grandmother's engagement ring in the enhancer.

I think you could definitely put some of the diamonds into a wedding band. You just need to find a jeweler who you trust to make the ring.

That's hard to find! I'm still not sure what I want to do, use my grandmothers or buy my own.

Well there are two main options that would be the best in your chance....

First off...yes they can be re-mounted into a setting of style that will go with your engagement ring.

Many of the national chains ship their repairs to other locals to have them worked on, and then shipped back once they are done. Due to the value this has to you...I would not allow it to be shipped. Jared's Gallery of jewelry is the repair shop for all Kay's, and other Sterling jewelry stores. Jared's would keep it in-house, and know how to use mounting books to be able to give you examples.

Option two...is go to a jewelry restyle event....this is where the jeweler comes to the store for a 1 day event...and works they jewelry on-site. Can type the diamonds from you grandmothers, and place into a wedding band....as long as the mountings are on-site that day for them to be able to do the change. This would take some prep work ahead of time on the jewelers behalf with some guidance from you.

    Best of luck!

Would your engagement ring fit into a thinner Tiffany setting? then you could fit the enhancer around it without remounting another but your main stone. The cost would be a lot less.

That is if you like the enhancer....I'm just trying to give you other options.

I would remove the diamonds from your grandmothers rings and make them into a pendant necklace. It still has sentimental value but it is modernized. You can even have the gold melted down and encompass the pendant. It's not as expensive as you might think. Don't feel obligated to use her rings just because they belonged to her.

I would put the center diamond In a pendant. Make the other diamonds into a channel set ring And wear it on your other hand.
